The amount of Amazon workers relying on SNAP and Medicaid has nearly tripled since 2020 — while Amazon’s annual profits soared by over 550%. It’s the same story everywhere: corporate profits are at record highs, while workers’ share of the economy is at a record low. We must unrig the system.

The scariest thing about Vance, Trump, & the GOP is not that they're bigoted sickos. We've surmised that since Joe McCarthy. It's that they're proudly & publicly bigoted sickos. That's the only policy achievement they can realistically market to what we (prob unironically) call their base voters.

Yes, yes, the state of California is definitely taking children away from their parents if they don't agree with "the pronouns the schools chooses for your kids," yes, that is an entire string of events that definitely happened. It's cool how a US Senator can just spread insane lies on TV.

Republicans think it's "normal" to back a Senate candidate who was indicted for securities fraud, was impeached by members of his own party, was accused of bribery by his own aides and was sued by his wife for divorce "on biblical grounds" after a long-running affair.

And, we believe there should/has to be a better, more consensual way to figure out funding allocations. No singular person nor group should dictate which dimensions to fund, nor which methodology to prioritize (*cough* Insel/neuroscience *cough*).

ANT EXT may also fit less easily in a funding world dominated by a belief that neuroscientific understandings and cures are our best bet. Ultimately, we believe individuals with these disorders, their loved ones, and society deserve a greater focus vis-a-vis resources.

Josh Miller @jdmiller.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
A # of issues may be at play - Ant carries moral evaluation/stigma that may make funding less palatable (although look at all the $$ that go to incarceration), people may believe that the traits & disorders that comprise ANT are resistant to change, and/or they may believe distress/impairment is ⬇️.

As antagonism researchers (or antagonistic researchers…😉), we find it remarkably depressing and shortsighted to see only 191 million go to this domain – compared to 8.4 billion to Dis EXT, 3.4 billion to INT, 1.2 billion to autism, 810 million to Thought Disorder, etc.

Josh Miller @jdmiller.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
As you can see, funding across psychopathology domains is widely variable. Disinhibited Ext gets the lion share, as expected, given 2 of the 4 funders are substance use related. Antagonistic EXT and somatoform get next to nothing.

The data were coded according to the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology framework with an additional Autism spectrum given our estimation that 1) a fair bit of funding goes in that direction and 2) HiTOP will eventually have a relevant dimension

I dunno but it should probably be a bigger deal that the White House announced it wants to slap a 100% tariff on drug imports at the same time it is eliminating Medicare drug subsidies. And we’re talking about critical life-saving drugs like insulin, blood thinners, antibiotics, and heart meds.
India supplies approximately 50% of all U.S. generic drugs, and these face the highest tariff
rates:
• Antibiotics: Penicillin, amoxicillin
• Cardiovascular medications: Generic versions of cholesterol drugs, blood thinners
• Diabetes medications: Metformin, insulin analogs
• Pain relievers: Ibuprofen, acetaminophen
2. China-Dependent Active Ingredients
China supplies active ingredients for:
• >95% of ibuprofen and acetaminophen
• ~45% of penicillin
• Many other commonly used medications' base components

I guess it was only a matter of time before this October 2016 New Yorker cartoon by John McNamee came to life.
An October 2016 New Yorker cartoon by John McNamee showing swarthy man in an undershirt and pants sits on a large upholstered armchair watching a small television. On the floor to his left is an opened can of green paint lying on its side, some green paint spilling out onto the floor. On his lap, he holds a can of purple paint, the same color that is smeared all around his mouth. Angrily, he shouts at the television, “I’m sick of experts telling me what paints I can’t drink.”
