Every year my first day back after summer holidays and the RGS conference looks like: 0900 - enthusiastic rush of energy to design my research and teaching plan for the upcoming academic year, based on existing commitments 1130 - first waves of panic at realising the plan is wildly implausible

🎙️ We’re delighted to welcome Dr Julian Brigstocke as our second panellist for this year’s DGRG Annual Lecture at RGS-IBG AC26. See you in the Ondaajte Theatre on Thursday 3rd, 16:35–18:15 to hear more about @jbrigstocke.bsky.social's work. #RGSIBG26
The picture is a profile of Dr Julian Brigstocke, titled "Digital Geographies Research Group Annual Lecture". On the right is a picture of Julian, facing the camera and wearing glasses against a pink background. The profile reads "Dr Julian Brigstocke, Reader in Human Geography, Cardiff University". The profile introduces his work on the cultures and materialities of authority, especially "non-authoritarian authority" and debates around the spaces and politics of aesthetics. Empirically his research focuses on gender and violence through participatory work in Rio, colonialism and infrastructure in Hong Kong, and the politics of art in Paris. He's recently published a book on Non-Authoritarian Authority: Cities, Materiality, and the Aesthetics of Power. The picture ends with a call for people to join us in the Ondaajte Theatre on Thurs 3rd Sept, 16:35-18:15. On the left is a collage of pink and purple colours and pictured buildings. His image is joined by a LinkedIn and BlueSky link, and the RGS-IBG logo.
