I know this is deeply unpopular on Bluesky, but people in coding-adjacent fields, and many in maths, are pretty shell shocked by LLMs right now. Just about everybody else, in any knowledge/information-processing related field, are in total denial and have no idea what will hit them.

The Jehovah's Witnesses leadership has just dropped the infamous prohibition on blood transfusions. Only whole blood is still prohibited, and afaik that is rarely used anyway. Wonder what the relatives of those who died refusing blood treatment think now. www.jw.org/en/library/s... #jw

The railway tracks put down for way too much money in the 1840s at least left behind incredibly valuable infrastructure. In 3 to 5 years the $trillion GPUs in data centers worldwide will be obsolete and sold for scrap.

A flight-tracking account notes 35 C-17s flying out of airfields including those used by Delta Force (Bragg), SEAL Team 6 (Oceana), two of the three Ranger battalions (HAAF and JBLM), and the 160th SOAR. Looks a lot like staging JSOC in case it’s ordered to do the uranium recovery mission in Iran.

There are few things I hate quite like the data center boom. It’s an environmental crisis, invitation for corruption, and economic bomb in the making all at once. It’s a lot like 19th century railroad booms and bubbles. I wrote about that for @damemagazine.bsky.social here.
