What are the candies you only saw at Halloween when you were growing up? In my youth there were Root Beer Barrels, Smarties (the American kind, like SweeTarts), Necco Wafers, and Laffy Taffy... All rarely seen except in a big plastic pumpkin.

Went looking for Halloween tchotchkes for my mom at the Hallmark store and was surprised by the relatively small 'Ween section. Why? Because it's already Christmas at the Hallmark Store, of course.

I share this because sometimes a jolt of pure rage is quite invigorating and it will cleanse out your lymphatic vessels … anyway here is a slopmonger selling a "translation" of WUTHERING HEIGHTS into "modern English" to make it "actually readable."

WUTHERING HEIGHTS IN MODERN ENGLISH

Yes, it’s that book. The one everyone says you should read. The original toxic love story that spawned entire genres of dark romance.

Here’s the thing: Wuthering Heights is unhinged, devastating, and has been absolutely wrecking readers for 175 years. It’s a masterpiece.

The Victorian prose, though? That’s the part that makes it feel like homework.

This edition fixes that.

Same gothic moors. Same obsessive passion. Same “wait, did that just happen?” moments. Just in language that doesn’t require you to stop and decode every other sentence.

What’s different: The prose. That’s it.

No scenes cut. No plot watered down. No study guide summary. Every chapter, every character, every devastating moment, just written so you can actually experience why this book has been breaking hearts since 1847.

You get the full story without “hitherto,” “countenance,” and sentences that take three reads to figure out. You get Brontë’s genius without the barrier.

Still Wuthering Heights. Just readable.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

Spooky bird stories. My Halloween comic from 2024.
A comic titled Spooky Bird Stories. In panel 1, a turkey vulture is telling stories to other vultures, and it says, "She walked toward the source of the terrible smell. She got closer and closer, and then, to her horror, she saw... No dead body." A black vulture says "No!" and a turkey vulture says "Did someone already eat it??" In panel 2, a northern cardinal is telling a story to some songbirds. It says "They peered through the windows of the house at the gory scene. Zombies had smashed through the door in the night. The homeowner was dead. But worst of all... He hadn't refilled the feeders." An eastern bluebird says "Aaah!" and an American goldfinch says "It can't be!". In panel 3, A screech owl is telling a story to other owls. It says "And then the ghost fluffed itself up really big to appear scarier." A saw-whet owl gasps, and a long-eared owl says "Horrifying!". In panel 4, a downy woodpecker is telling a story to other woodpeckers, and says "The eerie sound rang through the dark woods. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. It was the distinctive two-part knock of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. The species had returned from the dead... FOR REVENGE." A red-cockaded woodpecker says "Yesss".

Since this summer, ICE has been arresting asylum applicants at airports. Many came legally, then applied for asylum. They have been here for years just stuck in a massive line, working and paying taxes while they wait. No prior admin would have arrested them. Their “overstay” is due to DHS delay.
