Back of the envelope calculations: 3600 years of research time went into the collective application process. The research will fund 3200 years of research. We are 400 research years poorer as a result of this. 1/2

nationalist governments are gradually strangling exchange of ideas and talent. The UK began this in earnest by financially penalising foreign researchers and students, and by imposing export control on a laundry list of tech research. The result always seems to be meek compliance. This is all done

I’ve officially resigned as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience. It used to be a reputable journal, but became a case study in how forced automation destroys academic integrity. 👇

New preprint @biorxiv-neursci.bsky.social 🎉 We map the functional organization of retinal input to the 🐭 superior colliculus & capture it in a dynamic "digital twin" that generalizes to unseen stimuli Probe it with your own stimuli via Colab to test hypotheses in silico👇 Amazing team effort 🙌

It was a genuine pleasure to do this interview with Michael. Over time, working in this field, you develop many thoughts that do not fit neatly into the usual formats of science communication. It was a lot of fun to bring some of them together and try to express them clearly in this conversation.

From the AI winter to vision restoration. 👁️ 🧠 @janantolik.bsky.social on building models that take biology seriously and why we still don’t understand how stimulation turns into perception. That gap matters: www.bionic-vision.org/research-spo... #BionicVision #NeuroSkyence #CompNeuroSky
