I don't think you can do it nicely in the complex mode on desmos as far as I know. You can do something like this though to cobble it together

Can you explain what these are? Is it the existing content you had already but just organised in a way to match the texbooks?

Definitely could do I think. I picked f(ax+b) for now because it was definitely a gap in my own resources, whereas I had lots on af(x)+b. Would be nice to have a complete set though :)

This inspired me to make something with claude about transformations of the form f(ax+b) Have a play with it here: jammyix.github.io/orderoftrans... (well aware there are many similar versions of this about online with desmos etc, but wanted to see what claude could do)

Another early question for new Year 12 FM pupils. This one is intended to show them that mathematics (at A-Level) doesn't really have 'hard' topics, we can make it all 'hard'! #MathsToday #AlevelMaths #UKMathsChat

Yes I always encourage to draw a line showing the path it would continue on if there was no wall! I understand their confusion I think - the angle between the incoming line and the outgoing line on a diagram does seem like it should be the answer on first look!

E.g. We had groups that had a 3 hr double lesson on a Thursday, then saw them again for 1.5 hrs on Friday. Then no maths again for almost a week. That was pretty rubbish! However If you had 90 mins on Mon, Weds, Fri that seems quite good?

Jamie Wood @jamiewoodmaths.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
I have taught both systems. You definitely change how you teach quite a lot. I think I like the "little and often" system more though just because that feels better for keeping things fresh in their minds. I think a bigger factor was when they had the 1.5 hr lessons in the week though.

It’s a small percentage of students who resit more than twice (and should we admire them for their resilience?) - so most of them aren’t on an “endless cycle”

Didn't notice that before. Not sure why they would dictate a method there. Just have (a) as show that the normal reaction is 19.6, and (b) find X. There's definitely some questions, mainly in pure I'd say, where that sort of scaffolding helps. But in mech there's just so many ways!

I get it; they can make a poster really quickly without even opening any piece of software really. Or providing much thought or time investment. However, not Maths Inspiration has a poster which looks the same as a local gardening company, the pub down the road, and a kids' football club

There are lots of good reasons to organise their work like that, but Ofsted definitely isn't one of them. Presumably things like evidencing feedback and actions is what Ofsted might look for, but there are loads of ways of doing that.

Definitely agree with this point, but feels like maybe the jumping off point is just moving. How many students are there who did A levels and went to University, then ended up realising it probably wasn't what they should have done?

The whole thing about "jobs in the local area" is interesting. I feel like students already do a fair bit of self-selection on this as it is. I worked in a coastal tourist-y area and we always had good numbers of students doing travel & tourism courses for that reason, for example

Jamie Wood @jamiewoodmaths.bsky.social · 28/07/2026
I think I do agree with it in principle though. I've worked in schools where they did a bit of link up with local FE colleges for some students to go and do more technical stuff for an afternoon a week and it was brilliant for them.

www.tes.com/magazine/new... All quite vague atm, definitely more detail needed. Would need big amounts of funding for staff, equipment and facilities. And if doing things like sending students to a local FE college who do have the facilities, then FE would obviously need a lot of extra funding too

If you have coursework but put in all the safeguards you possibly can to ensure no cheating happens, you basically just end up with another exam. When coursework was a thing in Maths most teachers seemed to freely admit it was a bit of a joke? At least that was what I observed!
