True not just in publishing/writing. Look at how this new Meta Muse basically jumps into the user's shit, mixes it around, gets it everywhere. Shares their address. Lies to their contacts. Sells their stuff at a low price. Do not let the vampire in. Hang garlic. Sharpen stakes.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Declines also just correlate with the rise of the AI bubble on somewhat coincidental terms. *all* at-home entertainment was overinvested in during the peak of covid, and we're experiencing a hangover crash from that, for example, which is now being compounded by AI-driven misinvestment.

In both film and video games, you see a ton of *project cancellations* and a general difficulty in funding new projects, which wouldn't be the case if AI was displacing workers in producing those products—you'd expect the opposite, in fact, if it was becoming cheaper to make a movie/game.

It really doesn't make sense to attribute those job losses to AI-the-technology, because if that were the case we'd be observing AI outputs displacing conventional entertainment products, and they're clearly not. Rather, the impact of AI is that AI-the-business is crowding out other investment.

Is there any particularly good journalism / reporting on Vance and his links to Thiel and the Silicon Valley lot? I feel like he’s getting skimmed over a lot in press coverage and would like to read a deeper dive on his politics. He feels a bit too under the radar for my liking.

I think a lot of Republicans would vote for Vance even if they are genuinely unhappy with the Trump administration because of how he has positioned himself, and it doesn’t help that we don’t have a v clear idea of what he stands for*. (*I know “what he stands for” changes with the wind but still)

"Without due process, you'll have no way of showing ICE that you're a citizen" is pretty effective messaging for normies! Do I wish everyone cared about undocumented migrants as much as they care about themselves? Sure. But they don't, and it's fine to have different messages for different audiences

Peter in the new Fire Emblem is the most relatable character I’ve ever encountered in a videogame, because after doing almost anything he’ll say “Kinda need a snack”

I remember someone said extreme wealth is the equivalent of getting kicked in the head by a horse everyday. Jensen Huang is 63 years old and doesn't know his own address? The only legitimate reason for that at this stage of his life is brain degeneration.

The best way to fight back against the Paramount/Warner Brothers merger is to support independent artists, journalists, writers, filmmakers, musicians and everyone else who has been walking a very hard path to putting things out into the world.

This is EXACTLY what I was worried about with the Paramount merger: They weren't going to make 30 movies per year. That was my issue with it. Now we have 30 movies! Thank you Gavin Newsom! You saved democracy! 🫡 🇺🇸 🗽 🦅

This would be a Mattel / character design and animation team question, so it’s nothing to do with me I’m afraid! If I had to guess, it would probably be because they want the show to be more accessible to a modern audience and updated to better reflect the time we’re in.

James Hamilton @jameshamiltonwriter.com · 20/09/2026
To answer your second question: I suppose that is logical, but I can’t speak to how Mattel choose which trains to prioritise or what their process is. Not my area. Sorry!

It’s perfectly possible that characters may have been added to episodes that weren’t in my team’s scripts, either as background characters or added during production (though the latter is relatively unlikely).

Someone messaged me on here saying “I know you said you can’t do this, but can I send you something just this once?” There are no “just this once” exceptions. Please take the time to understand why. Sending me or other writers your ideas is a big no no, and it guarantees that you will get ignored.

I really couldn’t have been clearer about this and how I will respond if you do. I’m sorry, but there are no “just this once” exceptions. It actively harms the writers to do this. There are no circumstances under which this would be okay.

Hello again (Thomas &) friends! Another general PSA: I don’t know a single thing about Mattel’s merch plans or choices. There was some guidance given when it came to including or not including certain characters in the show, but I can’t speak to that. Sorry! Please don’t ask me Qs related to merch!

I’m afraid I have nothing to do with Mattel’s plans for toys / models and have very little knowledge of it. Some characters (which I cannot name right now) were specifically included in the upcoming series because they were planning to make toys, but that doesn’t mean every toy is in the show.
