The science shows regenerative grazing simply doesn't work And I get it, it's a captivating well funded story ($200M from McD's otw), and it's easier to convince many that small tweaks are all that's needed vs. actual systemic changes away from beef 🧵here's 8+ reasons why this won't make beef eco

The world is making *some* progress on climate change. And I want to know where & how — so we can learn from these wins and reproduce them elsewhere ASAP. That’s why these data are so important. They show where we are making progress, and where we’re not. No guesswork. No greenwashing. Just data.

@tamarhaspel.bsky.social I think they are both about 5% of emissions. You just sketched it out for beef. As for EVs, that sector is closer to 10% of emissions (IPCC AR6) and replacing conventional with EV cuts emissions by about 50%. See drawdown.org/explorer for that 50% number.

We often hear about the "hard-to-abate" emissions — especially from cement, steel, aviation... Sometimes these are used to justify crazy carbon removal schemes. But as Sarah Gleeson at Project Drawdown points out, "hard-to-abate" doesn't mean "impossible-to-abate"... drawdown.org/insights/wha...

What are “hard-to-abate” emissions – and why do they matter?
Hard-to-abate emissions aren't impossible-to-abate. Here's where we can start to reduce these stubborn emissions.

I also try not to use the term science refugee to desribe our situation. One reason is that I’m still able to continue my work with @projectdrawdown.bsky.social another is a desire to reserve the term refugee from those fleeing for their physical safety.

I’m in a similar situation, I am now living in Aix en Provence, and we have been accepted into the Safe Place For Science program at @univ-amu.fr I feel there was quite a bit of interest from US media - however we turned down multiple interview requests.

Fair point. And my quote in the article is about that exactly. (I calculate that emissions from dairy are equal to those of the coffee for a cappuccino.). I opted to focus my post on the point that there are more important levers.

I was quoted in this article about climate impacts of coffee www.nytimes.com/2025/12/03/c... As I (and the other experts) said, CO2 emissions from coffee itself are relatively small. So here’s an idea: drink as much coffee as you want, and when you are good and awake, go learn about heat pumps.

Surprising no one … more evidence that it is far more effective to keep CO2 out of the atmosphere than to try to remove it.

The Trump Administration just issued a new order trying to kill solar and wind because they allegedly use too much land. But somehow this new fervor for "capacity density" won't apply to ethanol, which uses 100X as much land as solar per unit of energy. www.eenews.net/articles/ano...

Cameron is a great speaker - he shares lots of big picture observations and at the same time draws conclusions based on his mastery of the details - I’m sure this talk on low-carbon transportation will be worthwhile.

This is cool: scientists have developed a new high-yielding, low-methane variety of rice. 🧪
grist.org
Rice paddies, like cows, spew methane. A new variety makes them a lot less gassy.
Rice plants are a big source of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Scientists just developed a strain that cuts those emissions by 70 percent.
