Some steel makers argue for the easy windfall profits associated with free allowances, as opposed to just economic advantages of decarbonising their products. The EU needs to learn to resist corporate greed based lobbying and defend climate and nature. The agriculture example being similar.

"Make Electricity Cheap Again!" by Michael Liebreich @mliebreich.bsky.social, argues for accepting "clean-ish power" to enable electrification, rather than going after the expensive last leg of electricity decarbonization.
A chart showing the marginal cost of decarbonizing the US power grid.

The marginal cost rises sharply for CO2 reductions of more than 90% from 2005 levels.

When the fossil fuel industry funds a party it is explicitly asking for policies that show a return on that political investment. It highlights a key policies to pursue: increasing carbon taxes. If rebated to all equally It's simple, fast, effective & fair. Most households would be better off.

Low-carbon electricity sources grew faster than demand in 2025, pushing fossil fuels into decline— Solar and wind energy have grown quickly in recent years, but global electricity demand has grown faster.
Bar chart of change in global electricity generation by source from 2024 to 2025 where low-carbon sources met all of the 850 terawatt-hours increase in total generation. Solar and wind provided the largest increases (solar about 636 TWh, wind about 204 TWh), with smaller rises from nuclear and other renewables and a modest increase in gas, while coal and oil declined (coal about minus 67 TWh, oil about minus 12 TWh).
