Americans have never been angrier with one another. But polarization is not the disease—it is the response to a revanchist movement seeking to roll back sixty years of social progress. 🆕 by @lilymasonphd.bsky.social muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/a...

Abolish the death penalty.
Text:
The Episcopal Church has opposed the death penalty since at least 1958. In 1979, the 66th General Convention reaffirmed this position, calling on dioceses and members of the Church to work actively toward abolishing the death penalty in their states.

it would change nothing but it would still be stunning and important to see someone brave enough to withhold communion to certain justices over this

Blessed Feast of St. Michael and All Angels! ⚓
A colorful tattoo on someone's right shoulder and bicep of St. Michael the angel, scales in his left hand and a sword raised high in his right, with a 1920s caricature of a capitalist under his boot, gold coins spilling from his hands and a cigar in his mouth.

What if caring about people's material needs *is* a moral and ethical story about how to live together in this moment? I take it this is what drives the popularity of Mamdani and others, that people are willing to allow themselves a brief risk of hope that a politician might do something good.

well the good thing is it's not like we live in the most car-brained society in the world and all our infrastructure wasn't built around driving and parking and everything is walkable and we have lots of efficient and dependable public transportation. at least there's that

Guys, electoralism will always produce these people. Making elections in a bourgeois democracy the center (not saying they have no place, they are crucial) of your idea to change the status quo is a losing game. Whether it be Gaza or Trans people, they will inevitably throw someone under the bus

Our justice system really needs a robust legal doctrine of social murder (and manslaughter!) but such a doctrine will never materialize because the very people in power doing the most killing would have to be the ones to create and enforce it

A collect I wrote for the 4th last year:
Lord Jesus Christ, our King of Kings, who was anointed to bring good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives, and freedom to the oppressed: let your justice roll down like waters upon this nation, cast down the mighty from their thrones and send the rich away empty, so that the lowly may be lifted up, the hungry filled with good things, and that we the people may walk in holiness and righteousness for the rest of our days, for the honor of your Name. Amen.
