Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

In the 1950's and 60's the UK Gas Council created Mr. Therm, a mascot to promote consumer gas. A good reminder that fossil fuels didn't just happen, they needed a coordinated PR effort!

In the 1940's, the labour party was set on the nationalisation of gas and electricity, but they were in disagreement about how to run those sectors. A live conversation in the labour party was around whether those sectors should have worker representation! We've come a long way, folks.

Accepting Labour's amendment and passing the moratorium is really the only sensible thing here. Guidance from the Scottish government is fine, but this needs national level thinking and guidance.

Later today, the Scottish Parliament will vote on a moratorium on hyperscale data centres. The Scottish Greens are pushing a strong moratorium until we have actual governmental guidance. The other parties, except for labour, have offered amendments which completely omit the call for a moratorium!
