Kurt Vonnegut man
Kurt Vonnegut tells his wife he's going out to buy an envelope:
"Oh, she says, well, you're not a poor man.
You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet?
And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope.
I meet a lot of people. And see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by.
And I give them the thumbs up. And I'll ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is — we're here on Earth to fart around
And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around.
And it's like we're not supposed to dance at all anymore."

"It didn't add up, how people were getting killed and wounded, and we weren't receiving any fire." --Hugh Thompson, Jr. this thread is important history -- do read it.

Authoritarians don't willingly cede power. The oligarchs didn't spend billions simply for a brief taste of feudalism. If you're dreaming of comebacks via midterms and elections, you're kidding yourself. It will take an uprising. By trying to prevent it, the democrats are doing their bidding.

my jaw genuinely dropped at how beautiful the new jwst image is.
These shimmering cosmic curtains show interstellar gas and dust that has been heated by the flashbulb explosion of a long-ago supernova. The gas then glows infrared light in what is known as a thermal light echo. As the supernova illumination travels through space at the speed of light, the echo appears to expand. NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope observed this light echo in the vicinity of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI, J. This sentiment is nice but is poetry just breaking up prose with unnecessary line breaks

It’s fun because if there’s an author who got AI exactly right, it’s Adams with the various Sirius Cybernetics Corporation devices. In his books AI is invariably a useless annoyance that is painful to interact with and everyone tries their best to avoid.

i think people are genuinely forgetting that this trans panic has been a very deliberate project by the right for nearly a decade now, starting small, but escalating into what it is now. i think putting this on the one of the least powerful groups in america right now, trans people, is wild

At this point it’s been said in a hundred different ways, so I think people are being intentional about not getting it.
