It will be interesting what happens if the ICC survives, and the next Democratic administration will face the question of how to re-engage with the Court. In the meantime, I hope the ICC staff is already learning Linux and is prepared to live without Amazon and credit cards.

Of course, Democrats lost the mind games against GOP and decided to steer clear of the ICC and not move even an inch towards it, fearful that there might be some swing voter who will be swayed towards GOP if a Democratic admin endorses the court in any way.

The overarching narrative of the GOP has always been that the ICC is a threat because some innocent GI - sorry, DeathWarFighterxxx - might stand before NOT AN AMERICAN COURT someday. This danger was always bogus, given that the ICC's priorities were carefully steered away from the US military.

Trump's sanctioning of the ICC is funny, given that he was supposed to stop needless and wasteful American involvement abroad and instead is following almost every line of the neocon GOP foreign policy crusade. Go after Iran? Check. Infinite support for Israel forever? Check. Kill the ICC? Check.
