There’s a right way and there’s a wrong way to report on Trumpian extremism. Right way: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/08/u... Wrong way: wapo.st/4yElwyB
By Chris Cameron

Pentagon officials said on Thursday that the Army officer convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting would be executed in public, a practice that ended in the United States nearly a century ago and is most commonly carried out in a handful of countries, including Iran, North Korea and Afghanistan.

The Pentagon said in a statement that the military execution, scheduled for Dec. 3, would also be broadcast via livestream. Such a broadcast has little precedent, and releasing video of executions is most often associated with extremist militant groups like the Islamic State.By Amy B Wang, Aoife Walsh and Maegan Vazquez

The Defense Department said in a statement Thursday that the firing squad execution of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be live-streamed for the public to watch.

Earlier Thursday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he wanted the execution to be public.

Patti Smith: “The more difficult work would be my poetry. I know that my poetry is more difficult because it's code. I've always believed that
poetry is a form of code and the most difficult of all the arts to get through. I mean, it took me decades to be able to say, ‘I understand A Season in Hell backwards and forwards.’ I have a sense completely of ‘Desolation Row,’ but I don't burden myself nor am I presumptuous enough to say, ‘Well, Bob Dylan meant this when he said that.’ I move with the language.”

Patti Smith: “I'm not a real complex writer. There are poetic aspects, and I think the reader might have to deal with a lot of references, but they can easily look up [Japanese novelist Yukio] Mishima if they don't know who Mishima is. I've never really thought about how difficult or easy it is for the reader. I'm not a heavily descriptive writer like Faulkner or somebody. I always think of my writing as quite simple. The other books, like Year of the Monkey, which is 60 percent fiction, are like autofiction. People have to just go along with it, go with the flow. In M Train, Year of the Monkey and this book I'm writing now, you just take a little journey with the narrator, who's like a vagabond version of myself.”

Nixon is only the second Black woman to win the Democratic nomination for a U.S. Senate seat in the Sunshine State. If she wins the general election, she would also become the first Black lawmaker and second woman ever elected to represent the state in the U.S. Senate. bit.ly/45Bj7HW

The text on the image reads, "Election 2026: Angie Nixon notches an upset victory in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary. The oddest thing about the response to this essay is people who say it’s “personal”. You can disagree about some or all of it! I may well be wrong! But it’s not “personal” to analyze a film or other work of art, even negatively. Criticism is more than “Hurray!” or “Hiss!”

Well, here is former @sun-sentinel.com movie critic Rod Dreher telling The New York Times that demons are set to control people through AI. Demons.
Douthat: There’s a lot of people who think this, but you think this in a religious frame, where you think there is a demonic element to this.

Dreher: Yeah, I think it’s demonic. I’m not saying A.I. is demonic—

Douthat: Yes, you are. I’ve read your work.

Dreher: No, I —

Douthat: No, you are saying that.

Dreher: OK, but no, I mean —

Douthat: You can take ownership.

Dreher: But here’s the thing. It’s so weird to … I don’t want people to misunderstand. I mean, I check facts on Grok. I don’t think I’m consorting with demons. But I do believe that —

Douthat: That’s how they get you.

Dreher: Ah, well. Yeah.Dreher: [Chuckles.] No, but I believe that there is a world of the demonic. I’m well acquainted with exorcists and spiritual warfare, and if you know any exorcists and have spent time with them, you know how real this stuff is. I believe that A.I. is going to be used as a vector for the demonic. It’s not to say every instance of A.I. is demonic, but I believe that people will come to see it as an oracle.
