For me (and I suspect many in software eng) it was late last year/early this year. Opus 4.5 + Claude Code was the big step up that made me realize ok, it's probably worth the effort to really learn to use this stuff

They certainly have no practical high ground. Ethical, I’m not so sure. I think there’s probably an ethical way to build AI, but none of the big labs are doing it.

I switched from Claude Code to Codex this past week and my god 5.6 sol is so much nicer to work with than opus 5. code output was about the same but it really solidified for me just how fucking unpleasant it is to read claudeslop all day
