Very very excited to say that the books I've been working on are ready to pre-order! The second is "Art in the Field:Fungi" & covers drawing techniques & exercises, pencil skills, watercolour tips, & step by step projects for all levels... www.google.com/search?q=978... @dandcbooks.bsky.social
Cover of my book: Art in the Field: #Fungi which is ready for pre-order.

The cover shows pencil and full colour illustrations of #fungus as diverse as the #FlyAgaric and the #Chanterelle, to the #Turkeytail and #Morel, all feature in the book.

These books not only give my guidance on how to observe nature, draw, use graphite and watercolour, and enjoy exploring the amazing marvels of fungi; they also double as journals and sketchbooks with paper within the volume to create your own graphite work.

With step by step projects, a whole lot of encouragement, emphasis on just enjoying drawing rather them being scared of making mistakes or cheating...I really hope they help people enjoy drawing and painting fungi, and offer a gateway to the world of #botanicalillustration and #sciart
My photo of me painting the gills of the #Mushroom #Agaricus bisporus, one of the species I do a pencil step by step of in the book. There's also hints on how to take the project further and do a #watercolour of a mushroom, if you wish. You can see my finger tips and the tip of my brush as I paint a dark brown between the gills and up to the torn edges of the cap. This is my own photo of the completed #graphite #pencil #botanicalillustration of the #Pennybun or #Cep, #Botulus edulis. The illustration shows the #reticulation as well as the sticky cap, alongside my pencil and eraser.

You'll be pleased to know a professional photographer took the photos for the book!

🎥 Slime mould eating a living ant?!?📸 It looks like the pulsing plasmodium of this ‘dog’s vomit’ slime mould (Fuligo septica) is consuming an ant that’s still alive.🐜 Footage I shot before this clip shows it is clearly alive, but appears to be stuck/unable to move. I don’t think slime moulds have been recorded to consume living insects like this. So is it just a coincidence? Let me know what you think 💭 #scottishfungi #slimemoulds #timelapse #lookcloser

Fuligo septica, I presume. Or ‘vomit fungus’ to its friends (though it’s actually a slime mould).
What seems at first glance to be yellow cauliflower florets growing on a tree stump. But underneath it looks oozy and far less salubrious.

Description: highly calcified, somewhat bean-shaped sporocarps with barely present stalks. When stalks were present, they seemed dark in colour. Spore mass is black. Found on moss on a fallen tree in forest. Sitting on top of the tree, not dangling as Badhamia utricularis tends to do.

Several small, pale gray-white, fingerlike clusters rise from decaying wood and leaf litter. Their fuzzy surfaces and branching, coral-like forms contrast with dark brown debris and patches of green lichen.
