obviously we won't know the final answer until the playoff at the end of the season, but this BYU-Notre Dame game is going to go a long way helping us figure out The One True Religion

The 1993 Notre Dame season is my go-to reference point for why this was a terrible system. How can you beat the #1 team but suffer your single loss by two points to a different top 20 team and be eliminated from championship contention?

I don't get these sorts of takes! It's still a top 10 matchup. In what other sport does a single loss in the middle of the regular season eliminate a team from championship contention?

I also don't understand why the legislature refuses to ever override his veto. Especially this year. He's a lame duck. The Democrats have a super majority. Take a stand for once!

I got to listen to @chriswarcraft.bsky.social speak at UCLA Law today. I have admired him since he wrote about his blacklisting in retaliation for his support for LQBTQ+ rights for Deadspin back in 2014, and I hope he wins his assembly seat this November. Sometimes, being in law school can be fun.

The F stops right by the office I used to work at and I thought about this all the time. In my opinion the city should only leave the actual cable cars as tourist novelties while modernizing the streetcar lines like you suggested.

I appreciate this! I had so much anxiety over where I needed to remove my earrings after entering the legal field, which would've made me really sad because they are just part of my self expression at this point.

Yeah as you said that's a two hour journey. It's 45 minutes by car. No tourist is making that tradeoff. I know how to do it because I live here, and I know the consequences of the time loss. A temporary visitor is not putting up with that.

I live in LA and do my absolute best to get around using exclusively transit, but it's often literally impossible. I'm trying to imagine a tourist going from Santa Monica Pier to Griffith on transit.

It's hard to believe that my summer clerkship is coming to an end next week. I have learned a lot about how to fight vigorously and professionally on behalf of my clients, and I am looking forward to taking the lessons I learned this summer and applying them to my 2L coursework. #EJAFellowUpdate

I agree 100%. LA also has a ridiculous system of local government in general. Only 15 councillors for 3.9 million people in LA city proper compared to 51 in NYC and only five county supervisors for 9.7 million people in LA County. The small size of the elected bodies + the open primary = moderates.

Also the lack of ads during the hydration break. I was forced to watch the FOX broadcast instead of Telemundo for the first time yesterday, and it was very jarring to experience a full ad break in the middle of each half.

After ICE deported Wendy Hernandez Reyes, it turned her 3-year-old son Orlin over to her sister’s estranged partner, who tortured Orlin and beat him to death. I can’t say what I think should happen to those responsible without violating this website’s TOS. www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...
Because the service had been arranged last minute, the funeral home on a busy street in Atlanta could only offer them one hour.
Orlin wore a long-sleeved shirt and a tan vest with a striped bow tie and matching pants.
The clothes concealed his injuries. A new teddy bear was tucked beside him.
Embroidered into the satin lining of his casket was "Principito," or "Little Prince."
His full name was embossed on the coffin:
Orlin Josue Hernandez Reyes.
McCaffrey and Hernandez's sister had to hold Hernandez up as she walked trembling toward her son. Once she regained the strength to stand, she stood over him and stroked his face and chest.
"I never wanted to leave you," she whispered repeatedly. "I wanted to bring you with me.
My son."

I didn't even vote for this guy. The attack mailer just pissed me off. It takes 30 seconds to Google and learn that California crime is at record low levels. And it takes one second of critical thinking to understand no data from 2020 should be projected out long term.
cjcj.org
California Heads for Record-low Crime in 2025
With 2025 crime data now available for 82.2% of California, including all 15 major cities, the state is headed for its lowest levels of crime in many decades.

It's unbelievable that attack ads are still using 2020 data and headlines as if they are in any way relevant

Ah so Instructure (parent company of Canvas) was actually hacked on May 1, with the hack disclosed to the public by May 3. But yesterday (May 6) Instucture's Chief Information Security Officer Steve Proud said the company investigated itself and found nothing wrong!
A screenshot from Ransomware.live dating the Instructure hack to May 3 May 6, 2026
Confirmed Security Incident
Resolved - UPDATE - Canvas is fully operational, and we are not seeing any ongoing unauthorized activity.
As a precaution, we recommend customers follow security best practices, including enforcing MFA on privileged accounts, reviewing admin access, and rotating API tokens or keys where applicable.
This will be our final update via this status page for this incident. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate through other channels and are now communicating directly with impacted customers to provide organization-specific information and support.
May 6, 15:15 MDT
Update - We are continuing to investigate this issue.
May 6, 15:13 MDT
Update - We are providing an update on the security incident we advised you of yesterday. While our investigation continues alongside our outside forensics experts, at this stage we believe the incident has been contained.

Here are the steps we have taken since we became aware of the incident. We have:
- Revoked privileged credentials and access tokens associated with affected systems
- Deployed patches to enhance system security
- Out of an abundance of caution, we rotated certain keys, even though there is no evidence they were misused
- Implemented increased monitoring across all platforms

While we continue actively investigating, thus far, indications are that the information involved consists of certain identifying information of users at affected institutions, such as names, email addresses, and student ID numbers, as well as messages among users. At this time, we have found no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved. If that changes, we will notify any impacted institutions.

Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this matter. We sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern this may cause. We will continue to keep you apprised as our investigation progresses. For up-to-date information on specific systems…
