Watched a France24 piece about how millions of Egyptians live in Cairo slums. Cramped poorly made concrete mazes where multi generational families share tiny filthy living spaces without clean running water. And middle class Germans will vote far-right over some vague sense of middle class malaise.

Well, I've heard that it's a war about European security, freedom and democracy, so a better question would be: why should Ukrainians be the only ones fighting this war and being forced to do so against their will?

Very few things piss me off more than this inane obsession humans have formed around national borders. Humans have been roaming the planet for thousands of years, but now we've invented magical lines that can turn you less than human if you cross them in the "wrong" way.

I watched the whole, wretched thing and I can honestly say that the least historically accurate moment is when Calypso hand feeds Odysseus a single potato chip. YOU CAN'T EAT JUST ONE, GROK. Hopefully they'll correct this to a more accurate feasting on a 13oz bag in the final version.

The "AI" bros are stupid beyond belief. Otherwise, they would understand that their analogy is completely backwards. Dark matter and dark energy are phenomena that we have measured but cannot explain. They are not something that we cannot measure but desperately want to believe exists.

This is dark, but I think there's a darker twist to this: Schools, Foucault tells us, are always about making the kind of people that capital and state have uses for. In his days, that meant a disciplinary schooling system. One that got kids used to rigidly timed days, synchronous movements, etc. 1/

The ELIZA effect (or we could call the phenomenon AI pareidolia) strikes a previously intelligent-seeming person again. Some people see the face of Jesus in a piece of toast, while others see consciousness and intelligence in the output of a glorified autocomplete system.
