Embarrassing that people in the UK won't fight to protect people from homeless and eviction like the Spanish, or for kids to have food schools like the French, but will turn out to demonstrate their racism.

I always loved this picture. She seemed very human here, like someone I could chat over coffee with and get my mind absolutely boggled by her thoughts. Often the “women in stem” seem unattainable in their official portraits or in intense focus. This made her seem like a person.

I fucking love spooky lake month but I do worry that multiple years later we're running our of haunted hydrology. I need you all to either study marine ecosystems to find more weird shit or start doing stupid antics around open bodies of water.

We have laws explicitly written to prosecute this exact kind of racial hatred and incitement to violence. They exist for this very reason. Why the fuck aren't the government forcing the police to actually act on them.

Honestly, worked out as about £20 per person or less to hire and fill up the car, whereas the train would've been £50+ per person and taken much longer

Blaming tax rises for your business closing (and you putting many people out of work) when it's actually because your relationship failed because one of you had an affair with a staff member is brazen. Don't preach toxic positivity at me when all that is going on behind the scenes.

So I actually reported this. I was bored and it was a terror threat. Apparently, just report the comment to Facebook. We're fucked. Of course the police don't take far right terror seriously. Half of them are.

Arguably, the way AI is treated by the American right is idolitary by this framing.

By my understanding of Christian theology (granted I am not a Christian scholar though I take interest in their systems of thought) AI is a specifically non-christian thing given that ability of thought is granted to humans, ergo cannot be assigned to machine, even human made machine.

I've got to go to a wedding this weekend and my suit trousers are embarrassingly unfashionably skinny (not spray on but skinny nonetheless). I've not worn a suit in about 5 years. I was mainly surprised that it still fit. What a flop though.

Seriously though this is a real person who by basically all accounts was not a lesbian and seemingly didn't actually kill anyone, so this show is rather awful to a real human's legacy. No evidence her family were abusive either.

Also, the state should never have that power. We have seen what that looks like when it is weaponised against LGBTQ people. Alan Turing committed suicide after being sexually castrated. The state cannot be allowed to maim, mutilate, or kill in the course of justice. Ever. It is an abuse of power.

Jameela Jamil is once again unhelpful. Chopping rapists dicks off is not the answer. It makes it less likely that victims will report their rapists (who, in the vast majority of cases, they know closely). Retributive violence or vigilantism do not address violent and institutional misogyny.

AI reviews (1) are rarely the most scathing - they tend to hedge and dole out "major revisions" to duds and good papers alike; (2) tend to gnaw at limitations reported transparently in the paper, rather than figure out obvious-but-unsaid problems. Both tendencies have obvious systemic downsides.

It's saying that we shouldn't have policies that give money to all pensioners when only 16% are in poverty - that targeted interventions will be much more effective and allow us to reduce poverty in other demographics as well. Children's rate of poverty is far higher than pensioners. Far higher.

This is your semi-regular reminder that pensioner poverty: a) is real b) is significantly less prevalent than working-age poverty and half the rate of child poverty, and c) is such that a pensioner is statistically more likely to live in a household worth over £1 million than to live in poverty

Rather than using public money to subsidise property supply by indebting people further, why not just use the public money to build supply and reduce the Council House waiting list, increase state asset values, and reduce housing benefit costs.

The BBC news summary this morning went seamlessly from "critics warn PM scrapping triple lock would be electoral suicide" to "critics ask if PM has nerve to make tough decisions" and I don't think it's a particularly pro Burnham stance to suggest he might not be the entire problem here.
