Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Just in case you remember briefly being able to cross Broadway and Rosa Parks (8th) safely in all directions, Nashville DOT added a sign to remind you that cars rule. 030
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 04/10/2026A lot of foot traffic at this intersection, which, again prioritizes car traffic. 140
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Crossing Broadway at Rosa Parks (8th) is hazardous. There's an LPI of about 5 seconds. Useless. Crossing from and to the school from the bus stops is hazardous as well. 180

Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I agree. West End is too wide & East Bank Blvd too at this width. Many have died on West End, or were maimed, while crossing. I was hit twice by turning cars, luckily just suffered scratches & torn clothes. It's as @kemcdonell.bsky.social calls it: a wide moat: dangerous, isolating merely by design. 080
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 23/09/2026With 21st Ave S & Broadway being nonbikable, bike access to various sides of Vanderbilt is uneven and complicated. 31st Ave N, N of the too-dark too-dangerous West End Ave crosswalks, now has bike infra, but Blakemore and 21st S don't. Frustrating when you live in the area. 011
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Vandy traffic is crazy insane these days. Construction dump trucks cement trucks cranes golf carts shuttles VA patients... Vandy has dozens of viz-wearing contractors directing traffic these days. Added a traffic light by the VA over the summer. I bike through there daily swallowing excavation dust. 120
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 23/09/202624th Ave S at Dragon Park crossings suffer from darkness, vegetation masking traffic lights & obscuring street lights. I put in Hub requests. As for right-turning cars: the critical mass of pedestrians is such that we can mostly walk safely. If drivers see us in the dark crosswalk. Vandy traffic. 120
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Thank you! I looked at my neighborhood. 2 cents: Blakemore & 25th Ave S doesn't present many dangers to street crossers on foot. Just north of there at Natchez Tr & Blakemore it's dicier. The worst is the blind right turn at Blair and 21st Ave S by Kroger. Needs an LPI *and* No Right Turn on Red. 120

We are down to two splash pads, both of which are also closed. Tried to take the kids to the East Community Center indoor pool during the only 2 hours it's usually open on weekends. It is now apparently closed on Saturdays. 5255
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Speaking of street lights: I just got a ride via Sylvan Park tonight. The roundabout at the entrance of McCabe at the bottom of Murphy Road is really too dark. A dad and kid were on their bikes in the crosswalk coming from the park: nearly invisible in spite of having reflectors. I'll tell Hub. 161

Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 05/09/2026I just watched a Waymo speeding north into Hillsboro Village and to my puzzlement realized that there is no lowered speed limit sign as cars cross into a heavily pedestrianized area of Nashville. There's usually a backup there to slow things down except during early Vandy rush hour. RUSH hour. 020
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 05/09/2026No matter where you are in Davidson County, it is difficult or impossible to get from place to place avoiding the pikes so as to stay alive on a bike or on foot. The county is a collection of disconnected archipelagos or mostly private enclaves. The disconnection is striking. 050
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 05/09/2026I plotted nonlethal bike and pedestrian routes from the Green Hills library to West End, but none of them are safe. (And I keep wondering why there is no bus from Charlotte to Murf' Pk along White Bridge, Woodmont etc). Biked up steeply from Charlotte up Brook Hollow... 130
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 05/09/2026The 1st time I came to Nashville, I did a lot of trying to bike off the pikes. Biked from Belmont to Kirkwood to 8th, under the underpass, Berry Rd, Bransford... crossed Thompson headed for the zoo ... & found that there are steep hills and no straightforward connections off the pikes. 130
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 05/09/2026Too complicated for seniors. They want 100% door-to-door transport. Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 24/08/2026If you dig into the history of houses in Nashville, you can be surprised by how few of them survive two generations. Not sure how it compares to other cities. 010
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 24/08/2026But there's something ephemeral about Nashville in my view. Things can change in various directions. Except for the killer pikes, I guess, since buffaloes drew them, and all the land next to them is punishingly hilly. Smart bisons. 110
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Not sure how to judge the changes. Since I 1st set foot in Nashville 27 yrs ago, the whole swath from Sevier Park, 12S, Belmont, 21S, across West End toward Centennial Park went from cheap to expensive. Dramatically. Crazily. Insanely. Combined with the disappearance of transit on Belmont. 110
Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Gift link. You can get the NYT via the library website free. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/23/o... On Fairfax & 24S, apts. were replaced with a field. Irizoris @irizoris.bsky.social · 23/08/2026I haven't read their NYT piece but I can testify that our million-dollar-home neighborhood suffered the systematic teardown of dozens and dozens of affordable apartments in recent years. Many elderly people displaced. Only those waiting-listed to snag a rental in low-income housing are here now. 111
