JK Rowling is vile, and in no way an ally to LGBTQ+ people. Asexual people continue to be persecuted through forced sexualisation. People stigmatise their clothing choices and behaviors which lead to harassment. There’s need for increased visibility and education on this issue.

The point is for you to be scared. The point is for you to be too exhausted and inundated to take true action. The point is for you to feel defeated. The point is for you to feel isolated. Don’t believe the point. Take a deep breath. Focus on community, on tangible actions.

Well this is grim

weird interaction with a student this week. they kept coming up with weird "facts" ("greek is actually a combination of four other languages") that left me baffled. i said let's look this stuff up together, and they said ok, i'll open a search bar, and they opened... ch*tgpt

and i was like "this is not a search bar" and they were like "yes it is, you can search for anything in here"

the thing that made me feel crazy is like. every kid that's using this as a browser is getting new BESPOKE false "facts." this isn't "a widespread misconception about X that stems from how it's taught in schools." each individual kid is now hooked into a Nonsense Machine

with the "widespread misconception about X" you can start at a baseline. like, ok, in tenth grade we all talk about X thing from history, and that leaves us with some misguided concepts about X, but we can correct that as students get broader understandings of the world

but with this, each child is getting UNIQUE wrong facts they are SURE are correct... because they did what we told them to do! they "looked it up"! they got it from somewhere! it's not a kid making up a belief on hearsay and assumption... it's something they think they LEARNED

this kid was extremely combative with me, and i understood why. i was sitting in front of him and telling him that the internet, a computer, technology, all these supposedly authoritative things... were wrong. and that i, one person, was right. he basically *couldn't* believe me.

he decided that i was simply a teacher who'd made a mistake. he could check it, after all! he could look it up! he could find the REAL facts. i obviously hadn't done that, i was just an adult who'd decided i was smarter than him. hence the defensiveness. like i said: i understood

Welcome, @netflix.com. Do you have a moment to talk about your next big profitable acquisition, #OurFlagMeansDeath? Great. Glad to hear it. The story begins in 1717 with a bored aristocrat named Stede Bonnet. The story continues in 2025 with you picking up the show and making lots of money.

Dear @netflix.com, my old friend: Please hasten to pick up #OurFlagMeansDeath and save television from intentionally mediocre shows made to be watched intermittently while scrolling. Win awards! Touch hearts! Make Rhys Darby, Taika Waititi et al. happy! Yours, Elphia (a bicolor cat)

In a BTS photo originally posted by Samba Schutte on Instagram, Taika Waititi leans on Leslie Jones’ shoulder. They’re in costume for Our Flag Means Death 2x8. They both have sultry, serious expressions. Taika is in a black t-shirt with black leather pants and his long silver-black Ed wig. Leslie is in a silver dress with high slits on the sides, tassels, and a link scarf with her hair up

Rhys Darby and David Jenkins embrace for a photo behind the scenes, apparently during the filming of the season 1 finale. Rhys is in costume as Stede with a white blouse and dark teal vest; he looks sidelong at David while smiling with lips closed. David wears a black t-shirt and a black protective face mask around his neck while looking seriously at the camera. The background is the street where Stede faked his death, with a dirt street and various awnings. One door says “TAILOR DRAPER.”

It was mostly my oldest brother. Parents just listened to the radio in the car maybe. Not even sure where to place their music taste, but we're very different. Bro was learning guitar and hyperfixated on Dire Straits when I was very little, and then it was a lot of Dream Theater, which we both love.

A digital illustration of Ed Teach aka Blackbeard from the show Our Flag Means Death. He is seen from the side, sitting on the bed in his cabin, looking off to the left. He is lit by the gentle golden glow of the big window behind him. His hair is in a loose bun and he is wearing a dark green comfy gown. There's a silver platter with a metal tankard on it on the bed in front of him. He looks serene and in love.

to be loved is to be changed

Fishtopher, a brown and black striped tabby cat. He lays in the shelter next to a chrome bowl. His large head is hung low to the floor of the kennel, as he looks up with sad green eyes and very large, round cheeks. His ears are slightly down and his mouth looks small and almost like a frown. He protects his body with his round tail in a very sad, closed off manner.

Fishtopher, a brown and black striped tabby cat, now in his forever home. He stands up and leans against the couch but the lower half of his body is blocked by the camera person's leg. He looks slightly upward with large, sparkling green eyes. His ears are pointed up and forward and his mouth is almost in a wide smile. His pink nose is a much brighter pink now, and his large cheeks are still large, but smaller in comparison.

i was just forced to see another whiny “gentlebeardies think ofmd is the ed & stede show” take first thing in the morning, so here’s a reminder for those who need it that ofmd is, in fact, the ed & stede show 😘

“The HBO logline doesn’t give fans much to go on, but luckily for us, Jenkins has dropped hints about Our Flag Means Death season 2 in a few interviews. Excitingly for Gentlebeard fans, in an interview with Decider, Jenkins clarified that season 2 will focus on Stede and Ed’s relationship because ‘the show is the relationship.’”
