Ah, that's interesting! I'd assumed that bigger cubs were more likely to be male. So, a badger who starts to get chunky cheeks in autumn in more likely to be 18 than 6 months? He was tiny, & v underweight (see the thread) when he first appeared in the garden in June.

Do you feel like you are screaming into the void, crying for somebody to listen? Is is hard to stay alive right now? Are you dealing with suicidal thoughts, feelings, urges, plans, experiences and do you feel alone with them? Are you making sense of a suicide attempt, past or recent?
A person in athleisure and a cap sits in darkness, alone, a streetlight in the middle distance. Their face is blank.

It's pretty horrific tbh, the sense of dread. Badger related ERP, an RTA badger about a mile away (none of ours, but 24hours of awful uncertainty) & then Peanut going awol for 2 and a half days & being convinced the worst has happened. Too much for one week! #MadSkyChat

Indeed. It's going to be a long winter if I keep worrying like this every time they are half an hour late (arrival times get much more erratic in winter) #Mars

Oh no! That sounds really tricky. Are you having to do the supervision? I think you said she could only have supervised access 🤔 #MadSkyChat

For anyone splitting capsules by removing microbes I really recommend getting some "drug dealer" scales, which measure to 0.1 g or less AND a mini metal funnel. Otherwise little b*ggers go everywhere & stick to the sides of paper funnels.

That's interesting! I've not heard that before, though when I tried to cut Venlafaxine pills without a line it was v v difficult to get even halves. Wish I could remember whether withdrawals were worse then🤔

2nd autumn they'd be around 18 months ...? That's what I thought, Tolly started getting his chunky cheeks in autumn, just wondering whether he was 18 months then or possibly younger🤔

Badger peeps: Does anyone know whether a young boar would start to get their chunky cheeks ~6months old, or is it always upwards of a year? @badgermoon.bsky.social @willow41.bsky.social @tpearcewildlife.bsky.social @patrickbarkham.bsky.social @taneshaallen16.bsky.social @jb-f.bsky.social

Well yes, but you have to be really careful that you don't blame the person and instead, if they find something impossible, work with them to make it possible.

Which was a pretty despair inducing response to my not being able to do my homework! When my current therapist said recently that it wasn't possible to recover while still doing compulsions I reflected on the earlier statement & acknowledged it's truth. Therapist response was along the lines of >

Is it possible to recover from OCD without ERP? I didn't think it was.🤔 That's not to say "just get on with it" though. Of course if you could you frigging well would have! I had a therapist once say to me "if you don't do things despite anxiety you won't get better" >

where it was likely to be a result of my actions, but still had a v v anxious 20ish hours until all of ours arrived again safely yesterday. One of them is late tonight though, so keeping a lid on the worry is hard...

Sarah @intheflowerbeds.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
It did! Actually although my anxiety etc in the moment was super high I wouldn't say it was overall any worse than a normal, giving in to it, day. Unfortunately it then got sort of worse bcs I saw a post on FB about a badger RTA nearby. It wasn't that near, & not in a place >

Some would say I shouldn't do what I'm doing & I do sometimes wonder (in both an obsessive & not way). I also don't hand feed them because, although they aren't aggressive to humans (unless trapped/immobile & afraid) they do have a v powerful bite & could easily do accidental damage.
010
Sarah @intheflowerbeds.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
That only came about because we had one who was injured &, I now realise, v underweight & I reckoned the benefits for her of my opening the door outweighed the risk of habitatuation to humans. That led to a chain where the others also learned I could be trusted. >

Sarah @intheflowerbeds.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Haha, you can't really feed Eurasian badgers like pets: they're super shy & their natural (sadly often justified) instinct is to fear humans. When I feed mine, I will be sitting/half lying on the floor in the dark, keeping as still as possible. I'll be inside, they outside with the patio door ajar>

Please don't hate yourself, as @wijsgeer.bsky.social wisely says, none of this is your fault, you're in a tough spot & doing the best you can. Also, to paraphrase my therapist, when we beat ourselves up we just give ourselves an extra problem to cope with. You'll be back at work when you can x

I think sometimes they do! You might have to chase it a bit (& I realise that's a big ask after having been so let down), but I think sometimes things do come good. I had to badger the CMHT for a year, & essentially write my own referral, but they did eventually send it off!

Oh feck, maybe so. Although you'd hope even your CMHT, woeful as it is, would act on instructions from HTT psychiatrist... Or maybe HTT psych could refer directly 🤔
