Reposted by R. BlackwellAnna Holmes @annabookwriter.bsky.social · 27/12/2024Let me tell you a little bit about the current state of publishing. Every author, trad or indie published, is expected to do hours of self promo. Not too much, or people get salty, but too little and no one knows your books exist. You have to have a following. People judge you based on that. 1128981

R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 31/10/2024I want to make a goal next year to read more. I really miss it. I read 60+ books in 2021 and had the time of my life but haven’t read much since. I read 14 books this year and my goal was 2 so I’m doing better. But I think it would help a lot with writer’s block but also with reducing screen time 010

My counter-example: LI to my MC post-kiss: You are hands down the most confusing human being I’ve ever met. R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 27/10/2024I wrote today. I wrote the two climactic kiss scenes that I have been pulling my teeth out to write all week. The torment is over and I can go forward in peace. But I shall share a post-kiss snippet that I actually liked. #writing #writingcommunity 040

R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 26/10/2024That's the thing with trad pub isn't it? It's about what sells and will make the most profit. Unfortunately rn due to the shift in the dynamics/population of readers (short attention span, not knowing how to read, etc.), tropes are what sell. It's disheartening for those who appreciate the craft. 010

R. I've been zero drafting Act 3 chapters to sprint to the end, but want to go back and actually write them. #WeeknightWriters 140
R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 25/10/2024the ending mostly? The pantser in me left no guide for how to end this thing. Can't share too much but it's been tough to figure out how to not make the end fall flat after the climax. And to make the ending realistic but satisfying. While wrapping up the 32 subplots I started 🥲 #WeeknightWriters 030

R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 25/10/2024I'm not working on a new WIP so not really a #FirstDraftFall project. I may use Novelmber to finish this draft of my book (which is *technically* "Draft 1, Version 4"). Not every part of the it will be easy, but it must be consistently rewarding. “Hate writing, love having written” is unsustainable. R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 23/10/2024So I guess I should talk about my writing or whatever. I’ve only written 1 novel in my life. wrote some one-shots, started a story or two at 14/15, but this story has stuck with me the longest. I’ve been writing it for 10+ years. So you could say it’s pretty important to me. #writingcommunity 230
R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 22/10/2024The LateNightWrite questions got me thinking… I think a reason I like hearing other aspec experiences is bc I question myself sometimes. I may never know for sure bc I have little to no interest in pursuing a relationship to find out where, if at all, I fall on the spectrum. 120
R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 22/10/2024Oof now I know why I never was on Twitter. Character limits are so difficult for me. I’m an overwriter in every aspect possible. Concise who? Concise where? I can’t do it. How people answer questions and still have room for a hashtag or two is beyond me 230
R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 22/10/2024My MC Cami is (learning she’s) demi. Doesn’t mind platonic physical intimacy (squeezes/touches people’s hands to soothe or comfort them), but is uncomfy when it’s romantic. Her friendships are super important to her, but when she develops feelings for a close friend she um…doesn’t handle it well 😅 040
R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 22/10/2024My story takes place in the real world. I don’t know if I’ve really explored how it’s viewed in the setting the story takes place in. If I had to think about it, it’s probably something that’s not well understood or known compared to wider known aspects of the LGBTQ community. 030
R. Blackwell @inkovert.bsky.social · 22/10/2024The “sex-repulsed” stereotype; the idea that people who are ace never engage in sexual acts. While I can see where the thought comes from, I think it’s a narrow lens and doesn’t acknowledge that asexuality is on a spectrum. And that sexual attraction is not the same as interest in sex itself. 060
