@lotuscarp.bsky.social did a wrote-up for Freestone for #TDOV. I don't usually front that Freestone has a trans protagonist because the framing device means that I can't just talk about his gender without preamble.

I write a lot about stories. Sometimes I write about stories that don't exist, sometimes I write about ones that do. Allusions to a fictional religious text or a real novel adds depth. It sketches a world outside the narrative that has its own complexities to deal with.

Unfun thing about writing white supremacist groups in the late 1800s: censoring the slurs can play happy havoc with your formatting system because multiple asterisks are also how you denote what needs to be bolded or italicized.

Policy updated. As always, I'm just happy to entertain. Part 1 of 1000 Lotuses (a Chinese historical fantasy with lesbians and trans people and even trans lesbians) remains free forever, so it's easy to hop in: lotuscarp.itch.io/1000-lotuses...

1000 Lotuses files can be accessed for FREE if any one of the following apply to you:

- Are living in a country affected by U.S. imperialism
- Are a trans person struggling to afford medical care and/or relocation expenses
- Have contributed to direct aid to persons affected by the above (such as Palestinians under attack by the genocidal settler state of Israel), or reputable organizations that distribute aid to such persons, in the past 7 days

Email thepond@lotuscarp.com (with receipt of your donation if applicable) to receive your itch.io code(s). Linking to your social media so I can verify your status is NOT required but appreciated, especially if you have any fundraising links you would like me to boost for you.

It's always fun to do a news article. The epistolary is dominated by the power of perspective, and there's fun in doing a perspective so pulled back that they have to desperately grasp at whatever information they can get. Of course, the NSIN is fine with this as long as it makes the North look bad.

Whenever BG3 comes up, I remember that 75% of the romanceable party members (and 80% of the party members period) is either human, elf or half-elf, and realize that Larian so catered towards the sexual tastes of the average player that we have a DnD game without a fucking dwarf in the party.

Yarrun @infimace.bsky.social · 22/02/2026

I only made it to the end of Act 2 before the game softlocked on me, but I already felt like the game's sense of sexuality was designed largely around what is Acceptable for a mainstream audience in a way that kind of flattens the game. This article does a good job of laying all that out.

For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. And of course, that's Moses, not Jesus. I haven't heard one of them demand that the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, be posted anywhere.
