My friend's office is next door, I wasn't sure where she was at the time. Just heard from her and thankfully she is unharmed. What is happening in Kyiv right now is truly horrific. Millions of people are at risk of dying at any time. I'm not quite sure this really comes across, abroad.

Excellent thread on the MeckPomm elections in less than two weeks and how it’s not going to be like Sachsen Anhalt (despite a massive AfD vote). I’d still add the social and economic structures in MeckPomm (and NDR!) contribute to a very different type of political culture.

One constant in my life has been non Jews explaining to me what a “proper Jew” was. They came from all shades of the political spectrum, implying different things about how I wasn’t *really* Jewish. Some did it to discredit me. Others to compliment I wasn’t as iffy as “real Jews”. All shit though.

So… at some point we’ll have to come to terms with the moment when we (collectively) began thinking of democracy as a smörgåsbord where parties just offer stuff people want and the customers are always right rather than a system in which voters actually have responsibility for the system.
