I’m feeling very thankful for the invitation to speak at 'Unseen and Unprotected: Modern Slavery in the Shadow of Migration' at Cambridge. I spoke about borders, vulnerability, and exploitation, but what really stayed with me were the people, the warmth, care, and openness of the conversations.

{1/3} Hi all! I’m a researcher interested in migration, borders & social harm. My research explores the continuum of border violence, neglect & abandonment across time and space in Greece & Lesvos. It unearths overlooked forms of border violence as well as resilience and resistance to borders.
Book cover for 'Border Harms and Everyday Violence: A Prison Island in Europe' by Evgenia Iliadou. The top section features the title of the series, 'Studies in Social Harm,' in black text against a white background. Below, the image of a rusted and decaying shipwreck rests on rocky shores with calm blue sea and a distant horizon in the background, symbolising abandonment and struggle. The title of the book appears in bold black font, with the subtitle in smaller font beneath it. At the bottom, the author's name, 'Evgenia Iliadou,' is centered in black text, alongside the publisher's red logo in the corner.

Simple question: What stops us from speaking out against ongoing genocide? Silence has been deadly, weaponised during times of grave atrocity. So too has the failure to listen and the lack of accountable listening. What stops us from speaking out against ongoing genocide?
