We came together, staff and students from around the world. @hyabyohannes.bsky.social taught us the Eritrean/Ethiopian art of making Peace Rings from iris leaves, a tradition which allows wisdom and time to pass and for peace making to be accomplished through leaves of grass, and a gift.

This is what becomes of a life when home is no safer than the street or the workplace, and when media is weaponised to selectively, deliberately, and publicly destroy it. The unlived life we are condemned to bear. It is revolting. And we make coffee! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It shows the Convention matters and that refugee support groups are doing a power of work against the odds It shows that many caught up in the absurdly labyrinthine system that is the dehumanising ‘Refugee Abyss’ as @hyabyohannes.bsky.social calls it are subject to systematic misinformation. 3/

If violence survives by persuading each generation that it is the only necessary act, how can society ever learn to deny it the very conditions of its possibility?

I woke early in the morning to place my first ever vote into a box of imperfect choices. The cold morning air accompanied me to the polling station, and somehow that breath of dawn — quiet, honest, alive — felt more hopeful than every promise on the ballot.

After all, will this brutal world ultimately confess its madness? Will its confession be genocide? Perhaps it will once again declare ‘never again’, insisting on moving forward without accountability. This is the essence of coloniality, which renders some lives violable, expendable, and disposable.

Hyab Yohannes @hyabyohannes.bsky.social · 24/07/2025
With the genocide now in its latest stage, the political class that actively supported & defended it is now hoisting themselves to a moral high ground from which to declare ‘never again’ once an entire population has been starved to death or crushed in concentration camps.
