Students at Dresden University of Technology are protesting against a research project between the institution and Israeli defence firm Elbit Systems. A university ethics panel voted against the cooperation, but the rectorate approved it anyway.

Really wish inclusivity was a strongly held key aim of HE. It’s personal for me as a first generation student and grant recipient (showing my age). Widening participation is something I hold dear and want to expand rather than contract.

The marketisation of higher education (HE) has never been about making HE more inclusive: "Vice-chancellors have said they may need to cut hardship support for impoverished students and reduce outreach activities aimed at disadvantaged groups if the dire funding struggles at universities continue."

Departments and degree programmes are being shut down and thousands of academics are at risk of losing their jobs. What's happening in UK HE is the direct result of years of marketisation of the sector and poor management, but it's faculty and students who will pay the price. For how long?

To be honest, this brings back a lot of memories. It is another attack on scholarship questioning the orthodoxy within business schools, this time on scholars who, for example, initiated the Centre for Commons Organising, Values Equalities and Resilience. Please consider sharing and signing.

The President of the US has directly compared the actions of the US Navy in the Strait of Hormuz to piracy: "We took over the ship… the cargo… the oil. It's a very profitable business… We're sort of like pirates, but we're not playing games." Even at this point, it seems absolutely unbelievable.

Some Western states have recognised the State of Palestine. What is the point of doing so if they then accept everything Israel does in Palestine and in relation to it and, apart from some performative statements of condemnation, largely conduct their relations with Israel as "business as usual"?

Watching the last sunset of 2025 in peace, while so many people, namely those in Gaza, are simply trying to survive, is a privilege. It doesn't change anything, but I haven't forgotten about them. I wrote something similar last year, but unfortunately, the world hasn't changed for the better.

It seems absolutely insane to me to read so much news about the ceasefire while Gaza is still being bombed and Palestinians there are being killed. Also, I don't believe in conversations that do not include accountability for a genocide. All of this feels absolutely dystopian.

I have no words left to describe Trump’s plan for Gaza, immediately endorsed by the European Union and many of its member states, which offers no accountability for the ongoing genocide carried out by Israel and is couched in pure colonial language. Just shame.

ICE killed a father of three in Franklin Park a few days ago. They are snatching people at gas stations, at bus stops, and from their homes and cars, leaving screaming, panicked children in their wake. It is a nightmare, and when ICE has amassed 10,000 new agents, it could be the new normal.

Legacy media and cable news reduced Trump's aggression against Chicago to a question of whether troops would be sent immediately. When he said he was taking his fascist military spectacle elsewhere, those media players declared the situation over—while waves of federal agents attack our neighbors.

All Palestinians in Gaza are at imminent risk of starving to death — unless Israel bombs or shoots them first. Horrifying? Yes. That’s the reality in Gaza. And while this unfolds, so-called world leaders do nothing meaningful to stop the genocide.

Portugal, my home country, opposed the inclusion of a reference to the Palestinians’ right to food in a joint declaration by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). At this point, this equates to supporting the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
