Moth 🔦 first picture in my October series!
A digital illustration of a giant moth fae with glowing yellow eyes clinging to a lighthouse. At it's base, a lighthouse keeper emerges from his house to investigate.

The Ravens treated me to a long photo session this morning. They are so photogenic. Took loads and it was difficult to choose my favourite but I think it's the 1st one!

Stunning! I agree, much better to see them thrive in the wild than hauled up on a fisherboat.

This is how we should see these magnificant animals, not hauled up on a boat or in fillets on a slab. We should no more catch or kill this rare and stunning megafauna than we should trap or kill tigers or whales. Here are some more of Rupert’s photos from yesterday, with his kind permission.

Nature does us so many services that we are not even aware of. If we live more in harmony with nature, it will solve a lot of problems for us, plus we get a more beautiful and diverse living environment. It's win-win.

Bat Fact! 🦇 Big Brown Bats love beetles, including agricultural pests. One study estimated that a colony of 150 could eat about 600,000 cucumber beetles in a season. That’s a lot of free pest control! Whitaker 1995

IKEI art studio @ikei.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

IKEI art studio @ikei.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
120
IKEI art studio @ikei.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

IKEI art studio @ikei.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
120
IKEI art studio @ikei.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
120
IKEI art studio @ikei.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
120
IKEI art studio @ikei.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

The fact that some people profit in an economy that has operating beyond earth system limits while other people spend their time and wealth sewing umbrellas for coral is part of the broken feedback loop nature of our current predicament.

One of the symptoms of overshoot (according to the Limits to Growth authors) is that humans/the economy have to start doing work that was once provided for free from nature.

I woke up about two hours before sunrise this morning after a nightmare and couldn’t fall back asleep. So I packed my things, drove out to the swamp, and went for an early morning walk to watch the cranes. #nature #photography #sunrise #autumn #cranes #morninghike
Sunrise over a misty wetland, with glowing clouds reflected in the calm water. Several cranes fly across the horizon while more birds gather in the shallow marsh below, silhouetted against the warm morning light.

The nest sadly failed: it was a very rudimentary pile of thin branches that she could barely sit on. I found the broken egg underneath it on the ground. I hope she will have more success in her future endeavours.

We rarely mow our backyard now. We would rather see the baby deer eating the dandelions or watch the yellow flowers bow to the ground when the pollinators land on them.
