I've optimized and updated my Paper Reviewer that now runs on Sol: github.com/Ingar30/revi... It's really good! Run it in Codex on your own papers before you submit to a journal, and let me know if you have ideas for how to improve it.

🚨Elsevier forces out Games and Economic Behavior (GEB) Editor, entire editorial board has resigned, current board only handling new submissions until Nov. 14 #econsky
    Dear Advisory Editor of GEB
We are very sorry to be the bearers of bad news for GEB.
I learned from Elsevier on Wednesday July 28 that, contrary to my expressed willingness to continue, my 3-year contract will not be renewed.
"Moving towards a closer alignment with Elsevier strategic priorities and publishing policies" was offered as the motive for this decision. Requests for explanations, first by me, then in a collective letter by the other six Editors, were dismissed by Elsevier which simply reaffirmed its legal power to make such decisions.
Elsevier then started precipitously its own search for new Editors without input of the Editorial Board.
By Friday August 14 all seven Editors have sent their resignation, requiring a 3-month advance notice.
Therefore, we will continue to manage as before the papers currently under review and the new submissions until Saturday November 14. After this date we will only complete the evaluation of papers still waiting an editorial decision.

Do you run Qualtrics surveys? Use my GitHub repo to automate the process: Codex will create the survey, push it to Qualtrics, generate synthetic responses, download and clean the data, and produce a set of slides summarizing the process. Check it out here: github.com/Ingar30/qual...

I don't think one is "better" than the other, traditional labs have many problems too. Plain vanilla experiments using convenience samples from "online labor markets" might become less relevant, but those are only a small subset of the broader category of online experiments

The new OpenAI model announced today is quite wild. It is essentially Google's Deep Research idea with multistep reasoning, web search, *and* the o3 model underneath (as far as I know). It sometimes takes a half hour to answer. Let me show you an example. 1/x

After you've been "used" to o1, 4o feels like a degraded experience. It's much more *intelligent*: better answers, asks for clarifications when needed, and follows instructions. It might be overkill for some tasks, but I've started getting annoyed when I'm out of o1 requests

Ingar Haaland @ihaal.bsky.social · 16/01/2025
An interesting aspect of o1 vs. 4o is that the former *really* pays attention to your custom instructions, whereas 4o mostly doesn't care. Ask for short, pointed responses and o1 will deliver; 4o mostly doesn't notice. Important to change "legacy" instructions created for 4o

Bluesky can be a fraught place to post about AI but it is worth noting that the buzz over o1 (& now o3) is not “hype.” We know o1 can actually do some very hard tasks (see my post) & o3 appears to represent a big further leap. They aren’t AGI, but will matter. www.oneusefulthing.org/p/what-just-...
