Yesterday afternoon, Chancellor Frenk sent a mass email with the subject "A Stand Against Violence in our Community" announcing the suspension of the undergraduate and graduate chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), two student organizations that challenge our university's uncritical support of genocide.
We reject Frenk's accusations that student protesters have committed violence against the UCLA community. Not only does Frenk fail to describe any violence, but Jonathan Sures is a millionaire UC Regent who invests our university's funds in war, occupation, and genocide. He is not a member of our community.
UCLA claims to advocate for "discourse" and "dialogue" but fails to recognize that the Palestinian cause is one of national liberation, not a discourse to have. Framing advocacy as violence erases the real violence being actively perpetrated by weapons manufacturers and investors like UCLA.

We know many in our community are tired, scared, and outraged by UCLA’s hypocrisy. We call upon you to resist this disingenuous invocation of “violence.” Regardless of the official status of our organizations, we will never stop fighting for full divestment from the zionist regime.

In Chancellor Frenk’s own words, “No one should ever fear for their safety. Without the basic feeling of safety, humans cannot learn, teach, work and live — much less thrive and flourish.”

We cannot “thrive and flourish” when inquiry and dissent are criminalized by unelected bureaucrats the state has appointed to protect their power. But UCLA’s outrage does not extend to such matters.

What is UCLA’s idea of safety? Militarized policing, exposure to harassment and attacks, curfews, and invasions of privacy? Does UCLA not see violence in policing its students? In ethnic cleansing, occupation, mass murder, and genocide, which Sures and UCLA fund

inadvertently vital reporting here from axios showcasing dem staffers whining about a foundational tenet of representational democracy: telling your representative how you want them to represent you.

Congressional Democrats' offices are being inundated by phone calls from angry constituents who feel the party should be doing more to combat President Trump and his administration.

Why it matters: Some lawmakers feel their grassroots base is setting expectations too high for what Democrats can actually accomplish as the minority party in both chambers of Congress.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) told Axios: "What I think we need to do more is: Put the onus on Republicans, so that the calls that we're getting are directed toward Republicans."
"There has definitely been some tension the last few days where people felt like: you are calling the wrong people. You are literally calling the wrong people," said one House Democrat.
What we're hearing: More than a dozen Democratic lawmakers and aides said in interviews with Axios that their offices have received historically high call volumes in recent days.

Some staffers said they hadn't seen this many calls since seminal events like the Oct. 7 attack, the Brett Kavanaugh hearings or even the Trump impeachment proceedings.
Aaron Fritschner, a spokesperson for Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.), said his office's phones have been "ringing off the hook without pause since we opened yesterday morning."
On social media sites such as X and Bluesky, another aide said, "Every Dem is getting lit up by the neo-resistance folks being like 'do more.'"
