unironically I think most devs should work for a serious b2b outfit early in their careers because it's the only time you have any chance to get stakeholder inputs that make any sense at all not guaranteed, mind you

the problem is that the model is insufficiently like software and that the harness, which is software, is treated as a secondary concern by machine learning researchers rather than a primary object of interest

If you watch the aesthetics/performance of MAGA they are ALWAYS CELEBRATING. They are performing power. Many things we shouldn't emulate. This one we cld use more of. Play like youre behind, yes. But playing like you're losing or telegrahing the power of yr opponents is a bad, bad idea.

I kinda think that a lot of the push towards bigger models is to try to resolve that most people write bad prompts with bad workflows, and would like to replace their own thonk with robot thonk. But I am completely unimpressed with their ability to do so at any level of quality I would accept

if we Simply Stopped at GLM 5.3 and 5.3 Flash price and performance, it would be five years or more before the median programmer caught up and longer for non-programmers The new tiny Qwen model is good too, runs on my MacBook even.

Think about Miss Piggy. She lost a best friend and now an ex-lover in matter of 24 hours.
Miss Piggy and Dolly Parton in fancy dresses posing together photo of Tim Curry surrounded by muppets, smiling for a photo. A quote from curry is added “it didn’t go very well. It didn’t survive the shoot. She felt I wasn’t being faithful to her” it’s him discussing his ill fated affair with miss piggy

A really weird irony about the "authenticity" debate wrt rural volk vs cosmopolitan elites is that the actual culture of rural red state America in the 2020s is not actually authentic in any meaningful way?

Political campaigns can see whether you voted in every single election going back years and years. When you do not vote, they know, and the message that sends - the *ONLY* message that sends, ever, to any campaign - is that you are less worth targeting in future campaigns.

4/ Does extremism exist in EVERY faith? Of course. Human nature is consistent. But it is always a tiny fraction of the whole. Again, human nature is consistent. And every man and woman born is made in the image of God, reflecting His inherent goodness.

A LOT OF IT! A WHOLE FUCKING LOT OF IT! Though to be fair it's not just "should have thought of", it's also "did not have the effort budget to do". Like people build shitty workflows held together by human attention and human effort and then stop. They do this *all the time*. I do this all the time

like, "yes a bunch of people provided unharnessed LLMs and no guidance have cooked themselves" is not a particularly interesting observation. nor is "therefore the tool cannot be used for useful purposes" derived from that

Fascism thrives in contradictions: COVID was a hoax that never hurt anybody. It's also a terrible pandemic and Fauci must be held responsible. The COVID vaccine killed millions. MRNA vaccines are a crime against humanity. Also Trump invented the COVID vaccine and must be credited for it.

Or do we mean poor people who grew up in rural areas, or emigrated there to work? Because that's a WHOLE different kind of "rural outreach" than "talking to farmers" is. Or the "preserving nature" voters.

This is an important point! Wealthy countries don't usually have a lot of doctors & researchers who are good at diagnosing, tracking, & treating parasite infections. Why? Treating parasites is kinda walled off into "tropical medicine" and "third-world medicine." You know, USAID stuff.

The actual competition in this space is not in the multi-trillion-parameter models, it is in getting good-enough intelligence CHEAP. Which is why GPT 5.6 Luna is the most important thing that OpenAI has done in a couple years, and why GLM 5.2 is the most interesting open model out there.

Me: Politics is the art of the possible Guys whose idea of a fun night is entertaining nine of the most asinine series of hypotheticals you’ve ever heard in your life: I disagree
Now they step back and ask: Where are we going with this? What does the world look like five, ten, or fifteen years from now? Will there still be jobs? What if there aren’t?

One question weighs especially heavily on their minds: Who will control all these AIs?

Congress settles on an important part of the answer: Probably not us.

They hold a series of tense hearings on AI. They read the 2016 OpenAI emails discussing how OpenAI was founded in order to prevent Demis Hassabis from becoming dictator. But who is preventing Sam or Elon from becoming dictator? Congress is unsatisfied with existing responses.

The result of this wakeup is the AI Transparency Act of 2027, an omnibus bill that does many things, some good and some bad, but doesn’t fundamentally change the situation.
