This is fab, and long overdue for a great but largely unsung force in English pop.

Reporting back from just one of many possible futures.
A small tree growing between the tracks of an abandoned railway line. It’s just catching the sun, while half the line is bathed in shadow.

What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you see it?
The opening 5 minutes of A Matter of Life and Death (Powell & Pressburger 1946) which is mainly a dialogue between a doomed airman (David Niven) and a radio operator (Kim Hunter). NB the split screen above does not appear.

Nice bit from the concluding section of 'The Functional Tradition in Early Industrial Buidings', 1958.
Two small B&W photos: an industrial scale glasshouse, all angles and clean white sections, and a pair of cooling towers.

Captions read:

"To conclude, two of the twentieth-century's anonymous contributions to the tradition: some glasshouses at Spalding, Lincolnshire-

-and that now common object of the English countryside - splendid in shape if not always found where one would want to find it - the concrete cooling-tower of the modern power-station. This example is at Fleetwood."

It's just weird isn't it when the British Museum is running a sold-out exhibition, when The Odyssey reports $1billion at the box office, when the V&A has just opened the most innovative and accessible museum model in Europe....and this is what our minister for research comes out with.

Just putting this sign in Ipswich (including the fact it's a dead-end road) on here in case anyone needs it to illustrate a future article about private companies buying up more British universities
A sign in Ipswich, Suffolk with
"UNIVERSITY AVENUE
PRIVATE ROAD
NO HIGHWAY RIGHTS EXIST
OR SHALL ACCRUE"
on it. The sign also has a no through road symbol

The radar turning in the gloaming. A bit chuffed with this. Polaroid set to manual rather than auto, so able to set the exposure for the sky and these clouds. Amazed it worked this well. As usual a bit of damage from developing in my bag as I cycled onwards - I should carry a box for photos.
A Polaroid of a radar dish on the near horizon. It is a silhouette. The sun has near set, and the sky is settling down for the night. There’s no colour but the blue of a faded denim day.

The land below the sky is completely dark. Tuesday has already forgotten about it
