I have just seen a pair of (probably) #RingNeckedParakeets fly into the copper beech across the street, and then fly out again. Rapid flight, long narrow tail, showed green on the back as they flew away!

It sounds drastic, and it means an increase from £1500 per year to £2500 per year for someone in Band D. So they are talking about 150% increase in the Hammersmith and Fulham council's part of the council tax (approx. £1000 is H&F and £500 is Greater London Authority). But in Coventry we are […]

Well you don’t see that everyday: Chinese plates in Amsterdam. The stickers declare they’re on a journey from Qingyang to Iceland #amsterdam
A van with a 甘M license plate from China, a lot of country flag stickers, and a message in Chinese about Iceland or bust. Also a sticker that says “pizza tour”. Are they traveling the world to sample pizzas? goals.

Partial #eclipse shadows dancing through the wisteria onto a white plastered wall. In #Coventry , UK
A white plastered wall in an open porch is shown. The sunlight is coming through a wisteria plant that grows over the front and side of the porch and the gaps between leaf shadows are often small enough to act as pinholes and small crescent shapes of sunlight appear.

My latest @newscientist.com cartoon
Title: My confidence in my understanding of the scientific theory.

A diagram where the confidence is marked in red on an otherwise white figure

Panel 1
"Before I got a book about it."
The figure is red up to about his stomach

Panel 2
"While I was reading the book."
The figure is reading a book. He is red up to his forehead.

Panel 3
"When I had finished the book."
The red level has dropped to around his mouth

Panel 4
"One week later."
Now it is at his chest.

Panel 5
"When I try to explain it to somebody."
The level is back at stomach level.

Panel 6
"When they ask a follow-up question."
The red is so low we can barely see it.

This point needs to be made over and again: The main purpose of wealth taxes should not be to raise revenue. That's a small and secondary benefit. The main purpose should be to *reduce the fortunes of the ultrarich*. Why? Because those fortunes present a massive threat to democracy and public life.
