Never quite feel safe till they get off the train, especially when they’re standing side on to you. There‘s that moment of maximum danger when you can feel them eyeing you up and down as you look ahead. Then it passes, and they walk on.

War breaks out in Ethiopia. Tigrayan forces attack federal government positions on two fronts & capture the region's airports. Tragically, shuttle diplomacy efforts by the international community have failed. Ethiopia is on the brink of being plunged back into all out civil war. It's a disaster.

Self-medicating my waning sanity by listening to Miliband talk about Israel-Palestine. Right now, the two state solution currently appears more plausible than Nandy becoming a good Culture Secretary.

All other things aside sorry to kick the same horse but it just won't die: English is not the only autochthonous language of the territory known as the United Kingdom, and therefore it is fundamentally against the principles of basic justice to demand all election literature be in it.

Take, for example, Starmer refused to extend Welsh devolution which made Welsh Labour look weak but now he says he is open to giving more powers for Wales for Plaid Cymru? This also throws both wings of Welsh Labour under the bus - utterly incoherent politics.

I’m coming around to the opinion that a moral reading of Starmer overestimates his ability - think more “never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”. He’s just dense and only notices an issue when it is really obvious - which only happens to be comprehensive defeat.

Re devolved elections, this 2021 quote from Gordon Brown: 'The majority of Scots – and I am one of them – are proud and patriotic, and progressive too. What moves the nation, the beating heart of Scotland, is not so much the demand for separation as the desire for social justice.'

Could not agree more with this practical point of view. Interventions like the under 16s "social media" ban will not suddenly create a safe alternative rooted in democratic values.

"Putin invading Ukraine" quickly became "Russia invading Ukraine" the worse it became. So my feeling is that the response would be increasingly nationalist the worse the economy becomes.

Abolishing Right to Buy completely would be such an obvious move. Cardiff Council is borrowing £400m over the next four years to build housing and, importantly, want to build high-rises. If every English council had an incentive to build, I think they would.

Where’s my Empire 2.0 jingoistic imperialism nostalgia? Not even Clive of India. Reform should be reviving microwave-ready imperial propaganda, not all this. They need to go back, learn some more history, and reach more appropriate conclusions about what history aligns with their ‘beliefs’.

I agree it was underwhelming, but in the context of the last crisis - Bondi - I think this was an improvement. As in it was the right decision, executed poorly. I think it's fairly obvious this sort of "Speaking for the Nation" shtick does not seem to come naturally to him.

This fate will not befall Australian Labor because Albanese is not Starmer. It is almost impossible to summarise how badly Starmer has fumbled. This article could be ten times as long just to list everything, let alone attempt to explain what on earth he was attempting to achieve.
