There is a striking disconnect between Talarico, Turek, et al. — who have clearly made a political calculation that abandoning trans rights will help them more than it will hurt them in this election — and the many cisgender liberals I’ve encountered online who are absolutely freaking out over the possibility that trans people’s critiques and protests will ultimately tank said candidates.
Both of these things cannot simultaneously be true!
If you think your favorite candidate enacted the correct political strategy, then there is no reason to berate trans people for protesting it, as those protests should already be baked into your candidate’s calculations. So why are you berating trans people then? (Unless, of course, you enjoy berating trans people just for the sake of it.)
Alternatively, if you think trans people *are* capable of tanking your favorite candidate via our criticisms and protests, doesn’t that imply that your candidate (and their consultants and strategists) totally fucked up in their political calculations here? And if they did fuck up, shouldn’t you be reaching out and complaining to *them* (rather than berating trans people), in the hope that they might reverse their bad decision?

Experienced a nightmare today that I’m still shocked and angry about.

My review for Gregg's Greenlake Cycle:

About a month ago, my friend took my e-bike in to get the battery for the display replaced. They found an issue with the gear shifter too and replaced it.
Fine, not a problem.
I got the bike back and now I have to press the on button multiple times to get the display to work. It was totally fine before, aside from the low battery warning. Annoying, but not a dealbreaker. I can live with it.
Today, while biking on the road, my bike's rear axle came off. The wheel hit the fender, effectively braking me in the middle of the intersection and almost throwing me off the front. It is a miracle this didn't happen while I was traveling at speed. It is a miracle that I managed to drag myself to the sidewalk, examine the wheel and am alive to write this review.

I'm genuinely in shock. The wheel fell off my bike.
How could this have happened? How could they have been this unbelievably incompetent and careless? Why should anyone trust them with their bike when they are capable of such a catastrophic error? Did they hire someone new who doesn't know how to properly tighten a bolt? Am I supposed to check every bolt myself now to make sure my bike isn't a death trap in some other way?
This is insane. I'm still standing here on the sidewalk because I genuinely can't believe this happened.
Stay away from here if you value your life.
