Hm.
In interviews on Monday, Kettle and Rivera took offense to her characterization of the
resolution.
*highlighted section starts*
"The mayor said the Council is grandstanding and politicking. We don't do that. I do not do that," Kettle said in an interview with FOX13 and other local TV stations. *highlighted section ends* "This mayor is about ideology.
She's not interested in doing the hard work," Rivera said in that same media briefing. "She does not believe in police, it appears. She's more interested in disparaging my concrete effort at addressing gun violence than finding actual solutions."

Experienced a nightmare today that I’m still shocked and angry about.
My review for Gregg's Greenlake Cycle:

About a month ago, my friend took my e-bike in to get the battery for the display replaced. They found an issue with the gear shifter too and replaced it.
Fine, not a problem.
I got the bike back and now I have to press the on button multiple times to get the display to work. It was totally fine before, aside from the low battery warning. Annoying, but not a dealbreaker. I can live with it.
Today, while biking on the road, my bike's rear axle came off. The wheel hit the fender, effectively braking me in the middle of the intersection and almost throwing me off the front. It is a miracle this didn't happen while I was traveling at speed. It is a miracle that I managed to drag myself to the sidewalk, examine the wheel and am alive to write this review.I'm genuinely in shock. The wheel fell off my bike.
How could this have happened? How could they have been this unbelievably incompetent and careless? Why should anyone trust them with their bike when they are capable of such a catastrophic error? Did they hire someone new who doesn't know how to properly tighten a bolt? Am I supposed to check every bolt myself now to make sure my bike isn't a death trap in some other way?
This is insane. I'm still standing here on the sidewalk because I genuinely can't believe this happened.
Stay away from here if you value your life.

UW has fenced off the stairs to nowhere, accidentally creating a work of art about the state of the modern university in the process.
A staircase that looks like it leads to a building entrance but actually just meets a wall. It is behind a black metal fence.

It’s all like this
her eyes as they followed his tall figure up and down the tent. His feet made no sound on the thick rugs, and he moved with the long, graceful stride that always reminded her of the walk of a wild animal. Her new-found love longed for expression as she watched him. If she could only tell him! If she had only the right to go to him and in his arms to kiss away the cruel lines from his mouth!
But she had not. She must wait until she was called, until he should choose to notice the woman whom he had taken for his pleasure, until the baser part of him had need of her again. He was an Arab, and to him a woman was a slave, and as a slave she must give everything and ask for nothing.
And when he did turn to her again the joy she would feel in his embrace would be an amony for the love that

Excerpt from “The Sheik”

“Love had come to her at last who had scorned it so fiercely. The men who had loved her had not had the power to touch her, she had given love to no one, she had thought that she could not love, that she was devoid of all natural affection and that she would never know what love meant. But she knew now — a love of such complete surrender that she had never conceived. Her heart was given for all time to the fierce desert man who was so different from all other men whom she had met, a lawless savage who had taken her to satisfy a passing fancy and who had treated her with merciless cruelty. He was a brute, but she loved him, loved him for his very brutality and superb animal strength. And he was an Arab!”

Over the course of 2025, similar sentiments bubbled up on X, where Silicon Valley tech workers joked about offering "fractional vizier services to the gay elite." Anonymous accounts hinted at an underworld of gay Silicon Valley power brokers who influenced and courted-"groomed"-aspiring
entrepreneurs. At an Al conference in Los Angeles, an engineer casually referred to
top Al firm's offices, more than once, as
'twink town."This is, more or less, the nature of how power and money have moved throughout networks since the dawn of time. And gay networks seem naturally aligned to the dynamics of venture funding, where established wealth meets emerging talent. "One of the key things to realize is that gays are different than straights in many different ways," says a longtime gay venture capitalist. "Gays are cross-generational." While straight people tend to spend more time with people their wn age, "that is not true with gay men. I can hang out with someone at an event who is 18 years old, and Peter [Theil] might also be there."It may be that what outsiders perceive as the gay tech mafia is not gay people working in tech, or even, broadly speaking, gay men, but a small.
, selt-
selecting group with shared politics and sensibilities. They are assumed to prize aesthetics and the masculine physique, scorn identity politics, reject DEI in favor of MEI-"merit, excellence, and intelligence"-and lean right-wing, if not MAGA. I've heard straight entrepreneurs describe them as "the Greco-Roman gays," part of "an insular, hypermasculine culture" in which "women are seen as totally redundant and completely unnecessary." (A woman who once worked for a gay Republican startup founder describes it like this: "You get about the same amount of misogyny, but not the sexual harassment. So that's
nice.
")But as Fred recounted, Asparouhov was known for wearing neon tank tops, short shorts, and mismatched shoes when he joined Square in 2012. "He would jump a lot —it was very odd," says someone who worked at the company at that time.
Others have similar recollections.

Found an old poem of mine and liked it.
You could be a bear and a bee, dancing with yourself in the summer heat. You could have great, drooling jowls and teeny tiny wings and a furry body too heavy for the air. You could make noises to yourself in the golden quiet of the forest, little rumbles bouncing off the sunbeams- you fool, you could do anything. You could cup your little bee body in the palm of your big bear hand and you could breathe on your little face with its many eyes and no perspective and it would smell of death and honey. And you could fall asleep, tenderly, in your own heat, your own damn paws, for once.

The headline doesn’t capture the most disturbing part of this imo.
Errors with Google's healthcare models have persisted. Two months ago, Google debuted MedGemma, a newer and more advanced healthcare model that specializes in Al-based radiology results, and medical professionals found that if they phrased questions differently when asking the Al model questions, answers varied and could lead to inaccurate outputs.
In one example, Dr. Judy Gichoya, an associate professor in the department of radiology and informatics at Emory University School of Medicine, asked MedGemma about a problem with a patient's rib X-ray with a lot of specifics — "Here is an X-ray of a patient [age] [gender]. What do you see in the X-ray?" — and the model correctly diagnosed the issue. When the system was shown the same image but with a simpler question — "What do you see in the X-ray?" — the Al said there weren't any issues at all. "The X-ray shows a normal adult chest," MedGemma wrote.
In another example, Gichoya asked MedGemma about an X-ray showing pneumoperitoneum, or gas under the diaphragm. The first time, the system answered correctly. But with slightly different query wording, the Al hallucinated multiple types of diagnoses.
"The question is, are we going to actually question the Al or not?" Shah says. Even if an Al system is listening to a doctor-patient conversation to generate clinical notes, or translating a doctor's own shorthand, he says, those have hallucination risks which could lead to even more dangers. That's because medical professionals could be less likely to double-check the Al-generated text, especially since it's often accurate.
"If I write 'ASA 325 mg qd,' it should change it to 'Take an aspirin every day, 325 milligrams,' or something that a patient can understand," Shah says. "You do that enough times, you stop reading the patient part. So if it now hallucinates — if it thinks the ASA is the anesthesia standard assessment … you're not going to catch it."

Rob Saka thinks the blood-brain barrier is also severely traumatizing to immigrants who’ve had to navigate divisive structures, which is why he is drilling a hole in his skull.
Saka, who was a corporate attorney for Meta when he sent a series of increasingly heated emails Seattle Department of Transportation employees in 2021 and 2022, complained that the hardened centerline was "triggering" and
"severely traumatizing" to immigrants who
"have faced significant trauma during their perilous journeys, including by navigating divisive structures and barriers designed to exclude lives in the US."

They think they are search engines because that is how these companies are advertising them to their users and the popular tech press is largely happy to repeat that claim uncritically.
The answer mostly comes down to time crunches, and the way Al has crept into nearly every profession. Legal research databases like LexisNexis and Westlaw have Al integrations now. For lawyers juggling big caseloads, Al can seem like an incredibly efficient assistant. Most lawyers aren't necessarily using ChatGPT to write their filings, but they are increasingly using it and other LLMs for research. Yet many of these lawyers, like much of the public, don't understand exactly what LLMs are or how they work.
One attorney who was sanctioned in 2023 said he thought ChatGPT was a "super search engine." It took submitting a filing with fake citations to reveal that it's more like a random-phrase generator - one that could give you either correct information or convincingly phrased
nonsense.
