When my wife did chemo and radiation, she would go outside once or twice a day and shed the hair as it all fell out. Today, seven months later, we just found a nest a bird (likely a wren) made out of her hair.

This is Bear, Australia's most famous koala detection dog. After a decade of service, he's retiring. He's located hundreds of injured or displaced koalas after forest fires. We're told his retirement will be filled with rest, cuddles, and maybe a little mischief. 15/10
a gray and white australian koolie with bright blue eyes looks directly at the camera with a tongue-out smile. he's wearing a blue vest and the sun shines down upon him.Bear stands on charred ground wearing his blue vest and red booties. he looks up toward the sky. he's presumably found a koala high up in a tree.Bear sits low to the ground on a sandy beach. the waves of the ocean come in behind him, but he's too focused on the orange and yellow ball sitting in front of him to notice.

This 1,800 year-old Roman glass cup is so well preserved that the railway construction worker who found it in the 1800s used it as a flower vase not realising its age! 💐 😲 From Himlingøje, Denmark. National Museum of Denmark 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a tall Roman drinking cup made of very pale green, slightly cloudy glass. The surface is decorated with thin, trailed-on threads of blue and white glass that wind around the cup, giving it a raised, textured, pattern. This type of glass decoration is known as ‘snake-thread’. The cup narrows slightly at the bottom and stands on a small, rounded foot, like a pedestal. It looks similar to an ice-cream sundae glass or ornamental vase.

This cup and many other glass vessels made in the Roman provinces, have been found in ‘princely’ burials at the Himlingøje Necropolis, dated to Denmark’s Late Roman Iron Age. The site is known for its rich Roman imports, indicating close relations with the Roman empire.

Now Keir Starmer has answered his question. Let’s turn to Nigel Farage 1. Who paid for your house? 2. Why did you say the same as Nathan Gill who is in prison for taking bribes? 3. Have you paid for that Street’s energy Bills? 4. Has Dickie Tice paid his tax bill yet?

A new Insta trend: workplaces (esp hospitals & care homes) in Germany show how they, how *we* all rely on migrants who work there, how they are part of this country, our friends, colleagues. We'd be poorer w/o them. They are appreciated. They are us. #GoodMorning, everyone [🎥 shortened; link below]

A favourite poster. A part of a broader initiative to enhance the customer experience, and thus retain and win traffic, between 1926 and 1928 the LNER put considerable effort into improving punctuality. This poster promoted this, seeking to build trust in the the co's services.
Poster, London and North Eastern Railway, Liverpool Street Suburban Trains, Punctuality by Austin Cooper, 1927. Coloured lithograph depicting an hourglass with text comparing train punctuality between 1913 and 1927 on services to London's Liverpool Street station. Text in the top glass reads "1913 Trains not more than 2 minutes late 86%" and in the one below "1927, trains not more than 2 minutes late 87%". Text in read across the bottom of the poster reads, "Although there are 23% more trains running now than in 1913".

Credit @sophiep25397.bsky.social on Twitter Farage lied when he said he was too ill to appear for the BBC interview on Sunday. The Heartland Institute, whose party he attended instead, doesn't believe in tobacco harms, climate change and seeks the dismantling of the NHS. Be warned. If you care

My books cartoon for this week’s @theguardian.com
Panel One.
Two figures walk up a hill in a park. One walks in front and the other is walking a dog

Front "My new year's resolution is to stop lending books"

Dog-walker "Really?"

Panel Two.
Front, becoming agitated
"It's just not worth the risk: cracked spines! Bent corners! Torn pages! Grubby fingers! Crumbs! Baths! Burglars! Rats! Children!! I can't allow such precious artefacts to fall into the careless hands of clumsy philistines!"

Panel Three.
Dog-walker "And how do the other librarians feel about this?"

Front "Less supportive Than I'd hoped."

Hats off to whoever did this (and the beautiful model).
One of those captcha things. This one says ‘select all images with bicycles. Click verify once there are none left’. There are 9 squares - 4 contain photos of bicycle seats, with the remaining 5 showing the beautiful head and face of a grey greyhound with a white stripe going from the top of their head to the tip of their nose.
