One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

The Big Bang theory is the creation story science has given us. It‘s harder to believe for some people than ones involving gods, and I suspect most people just accept it on a sort of faith. It‘s not clear from the title or description but this book helps you understand why the BBT is likely true:

If you do all that, you might even write Jonathan Livingston Seagull and make twenty billion dollars and have every adult in America reading your book.

But you won't have every kid in America reading your book. They will look at it, and they will see straight through it, with their clear, cold, beady little eyes, and they will put it down, and they will go away. Kids will devour vast amounts of garbage (and it is good for them) but they are not like adults: they have not yet learned to eat plastic.

A well-worn copy of Western Humanities Review, Summer 1961, which included Ursula’s first published short story, “An die Musik.”
The periodical Western Humanities Review rests on a striped and pattered textile background. It is the summer of 1961 edition, and the table of contents includes "A World Divided in an Age of Space: A Symposium," with five parts; "The Next Human Nature" by Robert J. Blakely; "An die Musik" by Ursula Kroeber Le Guin; "Fathers and Sons: The Novel as Idyll" by James H. Justus; "William Styron's Long March: Absurdity and Authority" by Eugene McNamara; and poetry, notes, and book reviews. It cost 75 cents.

Only 6% of MPs are not on X. I am one of them. I chose to step away from a platform that is increasingly fuelling division and radicalisation in our country. We deserve better spaces for debate, and I hope more colleagues will follow and help rebuild healthier conversations.
