I respect that though it is clearly possible to have basically any flat soled shoes converted for use in curling (eg like the American man in mixed doubles and his airforce ones), most people just solidly stick to postman pat shoes.

Been thinking about this quite a bit recently. According to google ngram viewer the change happened about 2006. Can't help but feel that this House of Commons committee report section (publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5901/cm...) on the distinction misses the point!
Google Ngram Viewer graph comparing "violence against women and girls" and "violence against women and children"Section of report titled "A definition of violence against women and girls": "6. We welcome the long-term commitment by the Government to halve VAWG in a decade, but without a standard definition used across government, police and third sector organisations, performance against this commitment will remain difficult to measure. There is a broad definition that is used in the sector: VAWG is violence and abuse that disproportionately affects women. It includes, but is not limited to harassment, stalking, rape, sexual assault, murder, honour-based abuse including female genital mutilation, and coercive control. While men and boys also suffer from many of these forms of abuse, they disproportionately affect women.9 However, VAWG is defined differently by different organisations. For example, some definitions include victims and survivors who are men and boys, whilst others do not.10 On our visit to Vienna, we heard that in many countries VAWG is defined as violence against women and children, including boys. There is no statutory definition of VAWG—domestic abuse does have a definition in law, and this is only one type of VAWG.11 The Domestic Abuse Commissioner has argued that a standardised definition of VAWG services is required.12 To ensure that funding of VAWG services has the most impact and meets the Government’s target, the Home Office should be clear on what it is measuring and seeking to reduce."

There’s a pronunciation of Greenwich that is specific to people who are from within about a two mile radius of it. I only learned of as an adult, having grown up 10 miles away.

As someone with a bunch of Irish emigrants dotted about my family tree, this nationalist/ ?anti-immigration march was a pretty wild thing to stumble across in Dublin today
A crowd of people in central Dublin holding the Irish tricolour flags and other banners and flags including a pro trump one, one that says “Blessington hold the line”

Hurt my wrist playing in goal a while back- thought it was a sprain. After swelling went down I noticed a lump over the end of the bone so thought I’d better get it x-rayed in case of small fracture.

Genuinely surprised that any amount of cocaine while driving is allowed???
Text from a bbc article about a fatal rta which states: “A blood sample was taken from Feelie at a police station after the incident and it was found to contain 67mg of cocaine per litre of blood. The specified limit is 10mg.”

Look I just think palace are a better team than Celtic and Chelsea put 7 past palace in the early, rocky days of the season, including a bronze screamer. So by rights, there should be at least 5 Chelsea goals this half

Like, I’m pleased for Celtic and want them to do well in the WCL, and for Scotland’s coefficient to be boosted. But also people can be annoying and Scotland has such an incredible women’s club football history
000
Hilllary Collins @hilllary.bsky.social · 13/11/2024
Also before people start being annoying about that being the first goal for a Scottish club in Europe- it’s the first goal for Celtic sure but Julie Fleeting scored for Ayr United (!) in 2001 (!), the first year of a eufa women’s comp, and Emma Black scored for city in 2005. Hibs had some too

Hilllary Collins @hilllary.bsky.social · 13/11/2024
woah woah woah Celtic taking the lead against Chelsea. Surely Chelsea should have been expecting counter attacks/ breaks? Can’t see the lead lasting long tbh
