Beginning of the chapter, reading:
By the third time Frenchie plays the bridge Izzy involuntarily finds himself humming along. It's a good melody and he already knows it'll get stuck in his head for the rest of the day, which, eventually, will annoy the fuck out of him. But for the moment he enjoys discovering all the little flourishes and variations Frenchie's clever fingers find, while his partner tries to figure out the shape and details of the song. Izzy sometimes suspects that he functions as some kind of guinea pig for this process – Frenchie's one man audience, to try out what arrangements work best.

“Yeah, babe?”
Izzy lowers his gaze from the wall to the Polaroid he's still holding. To the new frame Frenchie has placed on the table. He knows he's asking so much more than just hanging up another picture, when he wonders, “Think we can find a place for them?”
He feels Frenchie's lips press a soft kiss to his forehead and it's answer enough. Fuck, how much he loves his man, making room for Izzy's past without any fuss, as if it's nothing. As if it isn't one of the potentially most problematic things Izzy's ever asked of him.
“Sure can, babe. If you want to.”
“I'd like to,” Izzy acknowledges. It's an oddly comforting thing to say. To voice his hope, like Frenchie encouraged him to do just a day ago. “We talked about... staying in contact. If we could try to be friends. If there's anything left to build upon after all this time.”
“Building something new, huh?” Frenchie hums, thoughtfully. “Guess that makes sense. You're not the same person you were back than, might be similar with The Crew, who knows. Just. Uh... Can I float something by you? Without you taking this as a condition or rejection of the idea?”

Snip of the fic, reading:
A wind rustled the waves into white caps gleaming in the night.

The sky was cloudless and dark save for the moon’s waning crescent and the stars glimmering above the empty and abandoned ruins. Above him there faint, watery Aquarius filled a cup from the river Eridanus. Poseidon’s son, Orion, hunted the celestial bull, his dogs running beside him, loyal even in following their dead master into the skies. So much loss, Fang thought, in the stories the stars told. Stellification was supposed to be a reward for heroism, sacrifice, unrelenting love. But it was still loss.
Above him the starry river flowed into a sky-sea where Cetus and Pisces and Delphinus swam in moon-touched waters. Below him the waters in which he floated flowed out towards an uncertain future.

Fang felt the glittering glory of the stars. But he felt too the dark grief of the moon’s vanishing.

“Uh, because he's a pirate, no?” Frenchie improvises a child-friendly version – given the name and the ship, the tale basically writes itself. “And pirates are scary because if they get your ship you're royally fucked, Or, at least when you're in the Navy, I guess. Otherwise you're just, like, normally fucked. Anyway, you know, Blackbeard has a secret crew of cats, who stealthily wander the deck at night. They're smokey grey and their eyes glow red! So when it's pitch black and they raid an enemy ship, they crawl up the sails with the little hooks in their paws and shred them to pieces! And because catches are witches, those ships then become ghost ships, that's why all ghost ships have their sails and rigging torn, right?”
Just the thought alone makes him shudder.

This. 100% this. I'm doing so many new creative art/craft things rn. Not perfectly, but I'm learning constantly. I made a whole new thing today that I haven't done in years, but I went through with it despite doubts & failure. Someone is getting a gift made with ❤️, by my own hands & I'm proud of it.
