Made some small changes to the "colour state" box by showing the primary colour with the current pattern in dither mode and using a more interesting icon for 'mesh transparency' mode. #pixelart #gamedev

Looks like enhanced dithering is next on my list 🥳 -- The actual implementation of arbitrary patterns is pretty easy but I'll need to have a big think about the UI design for that to make it a good experience to actually use.

Just a quick reminder that I don't use any "AI" for this project, as in 0% for coding, art, video production, etc. (I don't even know how to use it; I'm probably unemployable 😅) I love working on this project by hand and I support anyone doing the same on their thing too. #gamedev #pixelart #noai

Added PC-Engine style wavetables (32 x 5-bit) to my music thing. Not sure how actual PCE music is made i.e. how often the table gets swapped out during a note - but I was able to make some gritty 8-bit style sounds with it already. Mouse editing is fun too and one of the reasons I wanted to add it.

Dirt Jockey: Heavy Equipment Operator (PS1) (2000) 1/4
Time to get dirty and get constructin' as you operate various construction site machinery, looking at dirt and mud the whole day and scooping it up with your hydraulic excavator, carefully rotating the arm to spill as little dirt as possible while unloading the bucket on a green cargo truck.

Here we have exactly that as you go through your training to get licenses for the various machines in order to get to the main part of setting up and erecting a building with all the knowledge you've accumulated.

A very stern looking cartoony man in a blue shirt, wearing a white safety helmet says "Now see how you do on your own!"Here we have the dump truck training (it's what I call doing squats), where you have to carefully drive a cool yellow truck full of dirt and try to spill as little of it as you go over ridges and bumps (with deformable terrain!) until you get to your goal. The bulldozer training puts you on a literal sandbox where you run over all the dirt and try to level it as much as possible, creating a nice flat surface on the entire building lot. You can press L1 to show a wireframe grid over any nearby patch of land that goes over the required level (red) or under it (blue) so you can flatten it up nicely.A special rough terrain crane training (that's a tongue twister), a long blue machine with a metallic gray telescopic boom and four outriggers, extendable horizontal beams that fixate the base to the ground for extended stability.

There's an oil drum on a start position and your goal is to hoist the load and carry it around a path marked as a gray area.

A little cartoony construction worker that looks like a bowling pin with two dots for eyes, a yellow construction helmet and Rayman-like floating hands and feet is gently waving his arms, pointing you at the oil drum you're supposed to pick up.

In 1980, Intel introduced the 8087 floating-point coprocessor chip. Plugging this chip into your IBM PC made math 100 times faster, good for CAD and spreadsheets. I opened up the chip to reverse-engineer exactly how it does complicated calculations. Let's take a look inside...
The integrated circuit is a black ceramic rectangle with 40 metal pins sticking out, in two rows. (This is known as a DIP, a Dual Inline Package.) It has three rows of text: "D8087-1", a cryptic version label, and then the copyright line with a big lower-case I, INTEL m c 1980 1984. The m and c are in circles for the mask-work symbol and the copyright symbol. The chip has a small semicircular notch on the left side, indicating its orientation. The package consists of two thin ceramic layers, bonded together with a gray substance; the metal pins stick out from this gray substance. The ceramic package is important to me because tapping the gray layer with a chisel will cause the two layers to separate, revealing the silicon die inside. In contrast, most chips are in epoxy packages, which are very difficult to open, usually requiring strong acids.

Officially speaking the Mr. Driller blocks do actually taste of human food, it's just that they are indeed inedible by humans
A clipping from an official interview with the lead team behind Mr. Driller, originally published in Arcadia vol. 3 (April 30th, 2000) and translated into English by @itsfantasticac.bsky.social.
"– Some of the blocks in-game look like food, but what do they taste like?
(Kaori) Shinzozaki: Please see this table.
[Blue - Mousse with sauce
Red - Blueberry
Yellow - Strawberry
Green - Lemon
X blocks - Chocolate
Blocks with holes on two-color stages - Cheese
Yellow hole blocks - Lemon Cheese
Green hole blocks - Melon Cheese
Bubbly blocks - Candy Drops
Spiral blocks - Whipped Cream
Cake Bocks - Sponge Cake Topped with Fresh Cream]
– Can Susumu-kun eat them?
Shinozaki: He cannot.
(Yasuhito) Nagaoka: If people could eat them, I think world hunger would be solved (laughs)."

Behind the scenes look at: clipping bitmaps to the canvas area. The idea is a Bitmap Layer is a floating image with its own size and position, we only want to render the visible part. It works! So now I can replace the debug squares with actual pixels. After that: Move Layer tool. #pixelart #gamedev
