Alex Pretti's gun is like Renee Good's car: irrelevant to the central fact that they were murdered by ICE. ICE wants us to debate whether Pretti should have been carrying because that avoids the central fact. Pro-carry, anti-carry--that has as much to do w/ his murder as his fashion choices. Zero.

Okay pedantic self callout time: The "one gene, one protein" is something I said to introduce a concept, and intended to at least make a quick note on to correct later but didn't get to. Splicing is a thing!!! I know that this is super unnecessary but IT WAS BOTHERING ME

Just wanna additionally note that there are a LOT of oversimplifications in stuff I said! So if you know some biology and catch a thing that makes you go "well hm wait" then I hope it's clear that those moments are there to convey a initial concept to build off of!

To drive it home to cis people- this kinda feels like a canary in the coal mine for public health at large. This is brazen. I expected bias, but not brazen neglect of science. This will be mirrored with vaccines, food safety, &more.

Email from Planned Parenthood (@ppfa.org) just now. I am very grateful to the institutions who are holding the line on transgender care.
Greetings,
Your health is our highest priority, and we believe your body is your own. We're honored to provide gender- affrming care including transgender hormone therapy - at Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS), and we wanted to reach out to assure you that we continue to provide this care.
Planned Parenthood North Central States

You may be hearing about orders and legislation that could impact access to transgender hormone therapy. While greatly disturbing, these orders are being contested in courts around the country and the impact on existing laws are unclear. Rest assured, PPNCS is still providing transgender care at all our health centers and by telehealth. Regardless of what you hear, please keep any upcoming appointments. We will update our website if there are any changes to our services: ppncs.org/TransCare, If you have any questions, our Care Coordinators are here to help. They can provide support, connect you with community resources, find answers to your questions, and more. To reach a Care Coordinator, you can send an email to lgbtqcare@ppncs.org or schedule a time to talk by phone by calling 1.800.230.PLAN (7526).
As always, we're here for your sexual and reproductive care needs, including birth control, STI care, mental health treatment, and more. We're in-network for most insurance plans and often have same-day and next-day appointments available.
Thank you for entrusting us with your care. Were here for you!
Sincerely,
Nicole Chaisson, MD, MPH Director of Gender Affrming Care Planned Parenthood North Central States

This is the key concern. The Cass Review was a complete sham on its face, but it's held as sacrosanct by both the current UK government and its precedent on the opposite side of the aisle. Ultimately, the reviews don't have to be credible, they just have to be justification to do what they want.

Re: Medical Necessity of Gender-Affirming Care
This letter serves to explain that gender-affirming medical care, including but not limited to hormonal therapy and surgical interventions, is well-established and recognized as a medically necessary treatment for individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria and/or gender incongruence.
Qualifications and Expertise
I am <YOUR TITLE. NAME / NAME, CREDENTIALS>. I am a <JOB TITLE> at <ORGANIZATION NAME>. I have been performing psychosocial and diagnostic assessments for Gender Dysphoria (ICD-10 F64.0) and Gender Incongruence (ICD-11 HA60) and writing World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) based letters of support for gender-affirming care since <APPLICABLE DATE>. I have a <YOUR HIGHEST APPLICABLE DEGREE> and am a <YOUR LICENSE TYPE> in the state(s) of <STATE(S) YOU ARE LICENSED IN>.
Recognition of Medical Necessity
Gender-affirming care is both supported and recognized as medically necessary by leading healthcare organizations, including but not limited to:
The American Medical Association (AMA), has made the official statement that “Gender-affirming care is medically necessary, evidence-based care that improves the physical and mental health of transgender and gender-diverse people” (Press Release: AMA reinforces opposition to restrictions on transgender medical care, 2021).
The American Psychiatric Association (APA), has stated that the APA “supports access to affirming and supportive treatment for trans and gender diverse youth and their families” and “opposes all legislative and other governmental attempts to limit access to these services for trans and gender diverse youth” (APA Official Actions, Position Statement on Treatment of Transgender and Gender Diverse Youth, 2020). Remainder truncated, continues with American Psychological Association (APA), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Endocrine Society, and World Health Organization (WHO).Dr. Kalen D. Zeiger's Templates, second page of a template. List continues midway through sentence:

Legislation: Guidance and Practice with statements in support of transgender access to quality health care (2023).
The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), whose Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse People, Version 8 (SOC-8) are the globally recognized guidelines for “medically necessary gender-affirming health care for transgender and gender diverse people” (WPATH SOC-8, Statement 2.1, pp. S16-S17, 2022).
This list is not comprehensive or exhaustive.
Established Medical Standards
The necessity of gender-affirming hormonal therapy, surgery, and other care is based on clinical research demonstrating that such interventions reduce gender dysphoria, improve mental health outcomes, and enhance overall well-being. The Endocrine Society’s Clinical Practice Guidelines and the WPATH SOC-8 both establish that gender-affirming medical interventions are not elective or cosmetic but are instead necessary for the health and functioning of transgender individuals.
Clarification of <PUSHBACK TOPIC>
<IF THERE IS A SPECIFIC POINT OF PUSHBACK, ADDRESS IT HERE. IF NOT, REMOVE SECTION>
Conclusion
Given the widespread consensus in the healthcare community, gender-affirming care, including but not limited to hormonal and surgical interventions, should be recognized as medically necessary intervention. Failing to acknowledge this necessity contradicts established healthcare standards and guidelines.
If further information is required, I am happy to provide references to additional medical literature, guidelines, and standards of care.

I'm really hoping that this is the case, but part of me is getting more scared by this. The fact that the report is so unscientific is a warning sign that scientists and medical professionals are being cut from the conversation entirely, and this admin is comfortable admitting that.

in case you're wondering, "what's the harm in claiming an extinct species has been brought back from the dead" when it most certainly has not, our interior secretary is already using it to justify taking animals off the endangered species list
The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is to work with others to “conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.”

The Department of the Interior is excited about the potential of “de-extinction” technology and how it may serve broader purposes beyond the recovery of lost species, including strengthening biodiversity protection efforts and helping endangered or at-risk species.

The Endangered Species List has become like the Hotel California: once a species enters, they never leave. In fact, 97 percent of species that are added to the endangered list remain there. This is because the status quo is focused on regulation more than innovation.

It’s time to fundamentally change how we think about species conservation. Going forward, we must celebrate removals from the endangered list - not additions. The only thing we’d like to see go extinct is the need for an endangered species list to exist. We need to continue improving recovery efforts to make that a reality, and the marvel of “de-extinction” technology can help forge a future where populations are never at risk.

Since the dawn of our nation, it has been innovation – not regulation – that has spawned American greatness. The revival of the Dire Wolf heralds the advent of a thrilling new era of scientific wonder, showcasing how the concept of “de-extinction” can serve as a bedrock for modern species conservation.

The Dire Wolf revival carries profound cultural significance as it embodies strength and courage that is deeply encoded within the DNA of American identity and tribal heritage.

Breakthroughs of this nature will inspire leading minds and future generations of innovators to chase the impossible, capture it, and unleash its potential!

The Department of the Interior looks forward to a vibrant future full of innovation that advances core missions such as wildlife conservation.
