Carney tells us that among the criteria for a project being designated in the national interest, the major projects office considers whether the project “contributes to Canadas clean growth and climate goals.” And a BITUMEN PIPELINE PASSED THIS TEST? Then the test is bullshit.

As @jameswsthomson.com noted already, the sheer audacity of Carney to begin his oil pipeline announcement by mentioning a wildfire that almost levelled the town. WHAT IS EXACERBATING THE WILDFIRES MARK???? MARK???

Weird that we name bridges, highways, parks, buildings, ships, ports and more after people, but not oil pipelines. Do people not want pipelines named after themselves? I think we should try it out on this one. Call it the Mark Carney Decarbonized Oil Expressway.

That's exactly what I'm trying to say, here: if they understood how values and ethics work, they would Realize they're never going to "solve alignment" in "AI", but since they don't, they'll just keep trying and failing and being confused when it doesn't work.

This guy is less than a chat bot - by choice. I feel sad for his kids - their parents have fed them AI with a kids voice and claim to have set the bar at ‘genius’. His real kids will never be good enough in his eyes. They will always lack - he will pick a chat-bot story over theirs every day.

this is key to understanding why liberalism seems to "go to sleep" in off years. we dont keep up the drum beat. conservatives slither into power. they fuck everything up. the backlash erupts and liberals win. then we assume clinton/obama/biden have it handled and stop getting involved. cycle restart

Well, I've been affected by the Bungie layoffs, and I guess I'm now looking for work. I'm a senior narrative designer on Destiny 2. I'm going to thread a little list of stuff I've done on the game; normally I go out of my way to avoid attention, but today I'd appreciate reposts.

The prime minister’s desire to run a tight ship can also be seen in the proposed changes to the federal freedom of information law. (A consultation period is underway until June 15.)

Journalist Dean Beeby was the first to notice the government trying to weaken the already dysfunctional Access to Information regime by proposing to legally deny access to some frequent users — journalists? — as well as proposing to limit the kind of records that the public is able to access, such as leaving emails and text messages out of the law’s scope .

Carney’s focus has been on the economy, there is no doubt. But it’s also worth highlighting what’s happening outside of the spotlight — whether the government wants us to know about it or not.

Naively, this sounds to me like how some cellular automata come to a stop. I know nothing about the processes you are using. Is there possibly an abstract connection ? If i seed an automata with an end point state nothing happens - the rule is ‘exhausted’.

One reason that approach can be functionally more dangerous is that it lulls citizens into a false sense of security with a baseless belief that their government is doing something useful about it, and for that reason the amount of public engagement with the issue declines under LPC governments. 6/

The main problem with checking AI outputs for errors is that you need to have an idea of what you actually wanted it to do. Most people use AI as a *substitute* for having to figure that out.

Can anyone tell me if beer selling is one of those jobs of the future Doug Ford favours? #OSAPcuts (and because someone will misunderstand, I am fine with beer selling -- it just seems a deep preoccupation of this government -- like its the future!)
Screen cap from CBC Canada (0ntario) ios app with image depicting Canadian mens hockey team celebrating barely winning a game at the 2026 Olympics.

Headline reads 'Ontario allows early-morning alcohol sales for gold medal hockey game'. A few days ago the same government told students we needed to cut funding for education because too many people were not studying for 'jobs of the future'.

Trump crashes out over Bad Bunny’s halftime show
The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER! It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence. Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World. This “Show” is just a “slap in the face” to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History! There is nothing inspirational about this mess of a Halftime Show and watch, it will get great reviews from the Fake News Media, because they haven’t got a clue of what is going on in the REAL WORLD — And, by the way, the NFL should immediately replace its ridiculous new Kickoff Rule. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP
