We conducted a comprehensive statistical analysis to support this argument, which both suggests that the Neanderthals were more ecologically flexible than had been understood, and that we have a poor knowledge on where admixture between sapiens & Neanderthals could have happened.

I've been thinking about this and wondered if it's possible that the diptera and moth might be related to the carcass decay of the dead Neanderthal itself? Ie is dental calculus porous to DNA if there is prolonged contact with decomposing flesh directly on it, in which insect DNA is also present?
