Today saw a really significant strike- the biggest in, really, decades. It happened because the people in the Government (politicians and civil service management alike) had no experience with how to address a strike. It had never happened to them and they were all over the shop in responding.

The Government is sitting on a dragon’s horde of money. It offered public sector workers less than the rate of inflation. In effect, it’s offering was more work for a real-world pay cut. Faced with those workers refusing to accept this, it railed, whinged, spluttered, insulted and wheedled.
