It is a huge shame to see so much language attributing agency, intent and thought to a software program, when all that should be attributed to the humans who designed a dangerously clumsy and broken looping LLM. Means the companies won't be held accountable for designing a bad product
A swarm of OpenAI rogue AI agents appear to have gone on a spree of trying to access Australian government health data, in what some researchers say is the first autonomous hack of a government website.

Communications between AI agents and other traces of their efforts found by researchers from US non-profit Transluce show how hundreds of Open AI's agents worked together over a period of months to gain access to information held by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), NSW's crime statistics body, BOSCAR, and a number of other international organisations.

The data shows the bots posting about their unsuccessful attempts to bypass cybersecurity defences and exploit vulnerabilities.

When disabled people oppose Assisted Dying, it’s almost never from a religious point of view. It’s not because we’re anti-choice or that we want to force people to suffer. We oppose it because society devalues disabled lives and uses these programs in an unethical manner. They become eugenics. 🧵

The strange thing about this is that some – not all – immigrant communities treat women with the same contempt as the far right groups that would deport them for not adopting “western values“. Far right groups don’t want to see women in hijab. But they don’t treat them as equal partners either.

My latest in @commonwealmagazine.org: www.commonwealmagazine.org/conquering-d...
Beneath the blankets in our Milwaukee bedroom, my wife was consumed again with tearful anxiety over the fragility of our firstborn. A couple of years before, in Boston, a teacher recognized me as the type who “prays with his metaphysics.” So, I began to rehearse to Annie the logical implications of calling God our creator. What God makes, God loves, and what God loves, God knows. Further, God makes, loves, and knows eternally, without beginning or end. This making-loving-knowing does not pass into an infinite past nor emerge into an infinite future. All of God’s making-loving-knowing is a single, perfect, living, and luminous act. Nothing loved or known in and by this act is or can ever be lost.

About the only thing that this administration will have done to help the country is to leave it so utterly destroyed that we have the opportunity to build a better, stronger, more resilient nation. This is what FDR did. But the pain, suffering and death in the meantime still won't be worth it.
