There’s one more thing I’d like to add. This also shows – first and foremost – just how important the UK still is to the Germans. We’ll keep your star safe until you’re back. 💖 ⭐

My take on what's at stake this Sunday in Germany for the @thenewworldmag.bsky.social 👇

Never again? Think again. The far right’s resurgence in Germany should terrify all Europeans
The AfD is on the path to power. It doesn’t just want to take Germany in a different political direction – it wants to build a new country

Despite everything (Sachsen-Anhalt, Reform hyper-corruption) BBC Proms' Last Night was once again inspiring. It's not nationalistic or xenophobic. It's open and everything that's good about us and worth fighting for.

Watching Last Night of the Proms reminds me of the folly of not wanting to be part of the group with our closest neighbours and friends. When did this country become so damn miserable and hard hearted? Joy and happiness might not win every battle, but it always finds a way in the end.

“Brexit’s worst effects can and must be reduced.” Cat Eccles MP says closer cooperation and alignment with the EU would make trade easier. With the EU remaining the UK’s largest trading partner, going further is the pragmatic choice.

Do you remember where else we have seen this exact pattern of excuses? From nothing-gets-past-me omnipotent iron grip, to "look, I just get told where to turn up and be nice"? Johnson on lockdown parties. Trump on anything Epstein-related. From almighty strongmen to clueless toddlers in a flash.

A man who's not even an MP declares himself Shadow Home Sec, another resigns from a Great Office of State he's never held, two men with zero standing to represent UK and France sign a treaty and instead of exposing this bizarre festival of delusion media is praising their reenactment costumes. WTAF
Dear Nigel,
5 September 2026
MY COMMITMENT
At Reform UK's conference today, I have publicly committed to increasing the tax-free Personal Allowance to £15,000, in my first Budget called within the first 100 days of a Reform government.
This change would cut taxes for 40 million British taxpayers.
It would take 2.9 million people out of income tax altogether. It would ensure that the State Pension was not taxed.
It would be worth almost £1000 to an average working couple.
It would form the centerpiece of a new bargain with British workers; a new bargain that puts them first, and ahead of welfare cheats, foreign nations, and the bloated civil service.
MY OFFER OF RESIGNATION
This isn't an aspiration, nor is it an aim. It is a promise. It is a promise I made to thousands of party members in Birmingham and millions of voters across the country live and on camera. And it is a promise I plan to keер.
If I do not deliver it, I should not remain Chancellor. Please consider this my letter of resignation.
failing to The British people are sick and tired of Chancellors and Governments deliver on their promises. In business, those who fail to deliver are sacked, not given honours. Reform, as a party of successful businesspeople, will bring that culture to Westminster. The British people deserve accountability and, with you as Prime Minister, they will get it.
Britain is broken. Britain needs Reform. And we must deliver.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Jennick.

Farage, a man who was doing Cameo videos for £70 a pop as late as March 2026, apparently turned up to a meeting to discuss a half-million donation and "wasn't really listening". What utter contempt he has for the very democracy, country, and people that he claims to love.

Kevin Rowland and Dexy's Midnight Runners are very unhappy that Nigel Farage used their music at the Reform party conference.
Tweet from the official Dexy's Midnight Runners account

I, Kevin Rowland (the son of Irish immigrants) and the main songwriter of ‘Come On Eileen,’ am disgusted to learn that Nigel Farage has used our song to make his entrance for his party conference. Myself, and all of Dexys are passionately against Farage’s politics.

I didn't mind if you were gay. Until you paraded in the streets in chaps and with dildos in front of families.
...
I didn't care if you were trans. Until you wanted access to my kids in school and wanted them to question their own sexuality and gender.
I didn't care if you were black or white or brown. Until you wanted to pull down statues, destroy our history, re-write our novels and pay you reparations.
I didn't care if you wanted to cross borders. Until you decided to do so illegally and then started criminal enterprises in the country you entered or lived off the welfare system.
I even didn't mind if you wanted an abortion, until you started celebrating them and calling the fœtus a "clump of cells".
I am not the only one. There are millions of people just like me. And we are angry now and will fight back.
The line must be drawn here.

Burnham meets trade union leaders ahead of expected premiership

2 July 2026A central point of contention between some of the unions and Burnham is the possible appointment of Ed Miliband as his chancellor.

The leader of the Unite union Sharon Graham – who represents workers in the oil and gas industries – has openly criticised the potential appointment of Miliband and has suggested he would "put a noose around the neck of job creation".

Miliband has repeatedly dismissed calls to approve new oil and gas licences in the North Sea.

Gary Smith, the general secretary of the GMB, has described the government's net zero policies on the North Sea oil and gas industries as "shameful" and "economic madness".

At a private meeting with Burnham last week Smith expressed the concerns of energy workers about existing policy.
