Not to be too maudlin, but this show just helped get me through the last week of my mother's life. When I asked myself why I loved it so much, I wondered if gratitude for the distraction had me practicing grade inflation. But, nah--it's really that good. Ella Rubin is a STAR.

These lines from @angelicabastien.bsky.social are so good: "Your cynicism isn’t wisdom...cynicism is the exact opposite of wisdom. It is closed off, unbending, cruel." Terrific and moving essay that helped me understand why I loved Disclosure Day and was disheartened by some of the criticism.

I now fervently believe this. Relatedly, I think celebrating good news and embracing joy are equally radical. You have to remember what you’re fighting for. We cannot sustainably organize around sorrow.

I think about this scene all the time. RIP Anthony Head
Three frames from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In the first, a demon named Anyanka says, "You trusting fool! How do you know the other world is any better than this?" In the next, Giles replies, "Because it has to be." In the third, Giles breaks a cursed necklace, and in so doing, restores the better world that another version of him had known.

@isaacfitzgerald.bsky.social putting into words what I've thought myself: "That devotion is something that still perplexes me--unless it's a devotion to art, or my friends, or walking. But in a way, as I grow older, I'm beginning to realize that it may all be the same thing, and that's enough."

Something something manhood.
Advocate of Woman's Suffrage.
He had this to say about woman'e suftrage:
* I not only advocate it now, but have advocated it earnestly for the last fifty years.
As to the militant suftragettes, I have noted that many women belleve in militant methods. You might advocate one way of securing the rights and I might advocate another, they both might help to bring about the result desired. To win freedom always Involves hard fighting. I believe in women doing what they deem necessary to secure their rights."
Mr. Clemene seld he had been invited to lecture on woman suffrage by women's or-ganizations. They knew where he stood on the matter.
"I cannot oblige them," he said, again putting his hand over his left breast; * 1 am troubled too much here. I would not have the strength to deliver a lecture. I won't lecture any more. My work is over in this ufe and this world."
It was not with his usual firmness of step that the humorist came down the gang-plank.• DECEMBER 21. 1909.
