Wtaf is this question my university just asked me about my project?
Does the project involve any work that could be interpreted as promoting DEIA, climate change research, or non-compliant to any Presidential Executive Orders?

Last night, I saw someone carrying their enormous dog in the heat in their arms. I was so confused, then the owner said the dog wouldn’t walk home because of the fireworks. I’m not a dog person, but this can’t be worth it!

I always like to see what the current offerings are on StreetEasy, and it’s gotten interesting with AI.

I trust journalists way more than cops and courts to investigate sexual violence allegations. When a thoroughly reported journalistic investigation comes out, like the ones about Eric Swalwell, I’ve seen enough. If you haven’t done this work you may be unaware of how much goes into it.

At last, a chance to repost my favourite ever font-related controversy with alt-text, now that Calibri is back in the news.
Pakistan's government is in trouble. And its fate may hinge on a Microsoft
font. Judicial investigators probing the financial assets of the country's
Prime Minister and his family allege his daughter (and apparent successor)
forged documents to hide her ownership of overseas properties. How did
they reach that conclusion? The documents from 2006 submitted by
Maryam Nawaz (daughter of PM Nawaz Sharif) were in the Calibri font.
That font, according to the investigation team's leaked report, wasn't
publicly available until 2007.

Possibly unpopular opinion but I think tenure should be revokable when you express bigotry toward the immutable characteristics of part of your student body. Such as saying women are naturally not as good at science and engineering. How many young women students has he harmed since saying that?

If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.

🚨 😾 VICTORIAN EMERGENCY CAT TRICYCLE 😾 🚨 Pop a card in the London post in 1896, & a chauffeur driven tricycle would collect your pet for care & cure, providing a smooth springed ride to the Hampstead infirmary More Cycling World Illustrated gems digitised at mrc-describe.epexio.com/records/CTC/...
Part of a page from 'The Cycling World Illustrated', 26 August 1896. It includes photos of a tricycle for collecting cats (complete with uniformed driver) and the Cats' Infirmary, Hampstead (a pen of cats of varying sizes in someone's house, one of the cats is being cuddled by what appears to be the tricycle driver). The accompanying text reads: "A philanthropic lady in the North of London has established an infirmary for cats. On receipt of a postcard she will send for the ailing animal, the tricycle which collects them being provided with a box resting on springs to avoid all jarring and jolting. The cats are carefully tended at the infirmary, where their quarters and most comfortable, and when cured are returned to their owners, no charge being made."

The language of non-consent around AI is really telling. "It's too late to be scared." "It's here whether we want it or not." "You'll have to learn to work with it." "You can't fight the inevitable." All just variations of "you're not allowed to say no." Creepy technology made by creepy people.

When people support Andrew Cuomo, what they’re saying implicitly is that they don’t care about the women he’s already sexually harassed and retaliated against and they won’t care if he does it again. It’s a political stance that enables discrimination against women in government
